Gaz Walker
I don't think it'll happen though because OPEC are/will be reducing oil production to compensate They've already tried that, cut production several times in the last 2 months - hasn't worked at all. SilverSoop
It's all well and good that the fuel prices are dropping but wait until OPEC cut production again and we will see the prices shoot up...once again!!

CJ
Getting petrol to Kos is more expensive. In the UK we have the petroleum industry doing its refining etc in house if you like. So the distribution costs are lower. UK petrol is actually the cheaper £ for £ than most others in Europe, it's the tax and duty that make it more expensive... Good point. I always forget that we are a small island situated about 10 hours by ferry from the mainland.

Wez
Is there VAT on petrol, it looks like there might be plans to lower VAT next week to get people spending, will this affect petrol prices?
CJ
Is there VAT on petrol, it looks like there might be plans to lower VAT next week to get people spending, will this affect petrol prices? Yes there is. So a possible drop of 2.5%?
Wez
Yes there is. So a possible drop of 2.5%? At what point is the VAT added, wonder how much this would drop the price. Could they exclude petrol from the VAT drop?
CJ
At what point is the VAT added, wonder how much this would drop the price. Could they exclude petrol from the VAT drop? I was always led to believe that VAT was added onto the total cost at the end. Therefore, that should mean a decrease of 2.5% across the board. Could they exclude petrol? Well the government could do this but I would have thought they would not want to ostracize the masses even more.
Wez
Here is an old (2000) BBC article which shows how duty and vat are added. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/in_depth/world/2000/world_fuel_crisis/933648.stm
