The Restorer
I've just got the paperwork for my new job in Reading which starts 1st December. That gives me next week to find somewhere to rent and move in. Thing is, I don't really know Reading too well. The job is in Thames Valley Park and so I was hoping to find something on the bus route and preferably not too far from town either. I saw some apartments on Kings Road which weren't too bad actually but I'm not too sure about the area with it being so close to the university. Obviously secure parking is high up on the list. Any pointers anyone, Ta!
Gaz6002
Personally, having lived in Reading, I'd advise not living in Reading. Try something out of town. There are some nice bits of Wokingham that aren't a million miles away.
JustGav
Lower Earley wasn't too bad when I lived there, but I echo the above comments....
stevie_b
I'd avoid the Oxford Road area. Apologies to anyone here who lives on the Oxford Road....
caliAl
I've just moved to Wokingham. It's about 10 minute drive to Reading. It's a really nice area, not much going on but I've not seen any trouble and the houses are cheap as well. I would defiantly go for Wokingham over Reading. Lukeyboy2k
My mate used to live in an apartment Fobney Street. I liked it there, less than a minutes walk to the bars, cinema, shopping centre and on the river, secure parking, but fairly pricey. He now lives in Winnersh which is nice enough but definitely very suburban.
Homer
The new apparentments near the town centre are quite nice and you have good links to shops and transport. As already mentioned stay well away from the Oxford road area of the town and Whitley (where I live), Oxofrd road is hell on earth, Whitley is full of pikeys. If you can afford it Lower Early and some of the outlying towns/districhts are FAR better choices. Wokingham is very nice but expensive. Bracknell is anoher choice but you need to be carefil which part you chose. Warfield and binfield (dispite their names) are nice areas. There's a LOT of members from all these areas so I'm sure we can help out with advice.
KamaSupra
I had somebody try to mug me on kings road in daylight so I would stay clear of there! They didn't get anything luckly but because I wouldn't give them my phone and wallet we had a bit of a fight till cars started pulling over and they ran off. The Restorer
Blimey. Ok, will take all that on board and have another look on Rightmove tonight. Which new apartments near the Town Centre. If you know the location even, that would give me a place to start. Like I said, I'd prefer to be on the bus route and it'll save me having to use the car for going to work (parking spaces finish at 7.15 and I'm not keen on doing short in journeys in the car). Thanks alot
garethr
Thames Valley Park eh? From time to time I wonder if any other members work at TVP. I see a Supra occasionally. Town centre would be good from a transport point of view because there's a free bus.

Thanks alot I don't know the name of the area, it normally just gets called "central Reading". The newer flats are the ones along the river that goes though central reading
