hadyn
Im currently looking at some second hand p-zeros with about 5mm left of tread in them for the back wheels of my supe (285 im going for) Is this a good or bad idea??
Bobbeh
I gave my brother my used Eagle F1's, they did ok. New P-Zeros at that size, you're looking at around £225 each.
GeordieSteve
MANY people will slag them off on here. I paid £30 each for some and they're no bother at all
hadyn
good, i might go second hand as at the moment my income cant justify 300 quid for new rears every 600 miles
Bobbeh
£300 for rears? Not wanting 285s then!

absz
i normally buy secondhand tyres for my car but only if i'm allowed to inspect the tyre before fitment. you really need to check the inner walls of the tyre from the inside to make sure it has not been driven flat and damaged the wall as many secondhand tyres with good tread are replaced for that reason. Zed
I've just bought some used 18" wheels and the rear tyres on them or worn out and so replacement 275 35 18 would be at least £300. I've asked my local used tyre place to save me some F1 GSD3's or SO2's or pilot sports if and when he gets some in. I'd have used branded tyres over brand new cheapo makes anyday, things like Falken's that are usually bundled with new wheels are absolute shite. That why they bundle them with new wheels, because they are wotrh sod all and maximise profits for the retailer !! As long as you can have a good look at the tyre before it goes on, and they are usually ok about this, then you've got nothing to worry about. merckx
Bad idea, especially if you don't know the history of them. Why do second hand tyres mostly become available? Wouldn't put them on any car never mind a high performance car like a Supra. Doing well over 100 on second hand tyres!
Zed
2nd hand tyres mostly become available from countries like Germany where the legal limit for tread depth is higher than in the uk. Therefore, even if a tyre becomes illegal in Germany it will still have several thousand miles left before it becomes illegal in the UK. The fact is that on a high performance car like a Supra, a cheapo make is far more dangerous because the actual rubber compound is inferior and therefore not capable of containaing all the power of the Supra, although even branded tyres can struggle with a BPU car. I also think (and now stands back and awaits the flames) that if anyone has to put second hand tyres on a car like a Supra because they cannot afford to get the real deal then they should buy a cheaper car that they can afford to run. Jake
MANY people will slag them off on here. I paid £30 each for some and they're no bother at all Part worn tyres from an unknown source are a massive gamble. Do you know if they've been damaged and/or repaired in the past? You might fit them and be fine, you might fit them and find out at 120mph why they were removed from the original car in the first place. Personally, I wouldn't put them on my car and, TBH, I think that if you aren't prepared to pay for new tyres you shouldn't be driving a Supra. I'm not having a go at you personally Steve, just at part worn tyres in general and folks who drive cars they can't afford to maintain properly. Jake
A couple of guys have said that they inspect their part worn tyres prior to fitting, I'd like to mention that they should also check them after fitting and regularly after that. Part-worns are much more likely to develop bulges in the sidewall due to accident damage. These bulges are impossible to spot before the tyre has been inflated and may not develop until the tyre has been run up to normal operating temp a few times, due to creep of broken plies (cords/wires/belts) inside the carcase of the tyre. CJ
What are peoples opinions on P-Zero Rossos?? Are they a good tyre?? Only ever been used to F1s,Toyos and Hankooks (urgh ) I have the Rossos on mine now and the dry grip is ok but, IMO, they are not as good in the wet as the F1's. Jake
Dunno about P-Zeros but I has Pirelli P-7000 on my VVTi and they were horrible. No grip until fully up to temp and terribly noisy on motorways. Never again.
hadyn
what do the condition of these tyres look like to you all? im just a bit concerned that the the grooves seem to be totally worn out on the tyre on the right???
geoffvalenti
They look like they've been run over inflated, the centre section has worn faster than the outside. They seem to be at the stage where I'd think about changing them for some new ones, but its not that easy to see just how much tread is left in the photo. Just to add my vote against 2nd hand tyres, the savings just cannot outweigh the risks. With a high performance car, like the Supra, if you can't afford the tyres, you literally, can't afford to be driving it
Whitesupraboy2
i wouldnt put them on. 1 you'd be replacing them in a month 2 wheres the water gonna go from the centre...outwards, causing less tyre to be touching the ground cleanly then if you had worn out the outside. If it was the summer, then maybe ok too tire you over. but a slick centre in this weather, i wouldnt. In this case id even say a cheap couple new tyres is better then that! colsoop
If the costs of such large tyres are too high perhaps you could go back to stock sized wheels and tyres.
Nic
What are peoples opinions on P-Zero Rossos?? Are they a good tyre?? Only ever been used to F1s,Toyos and Hankooks (urgh ) I started with SO-2PP and found these very good, I then swapped to P-Zero's and was never happy with them, would get a lot of wheel spin at the back and understeer at the front. I have recently switched to Pilot Sports which are far superior to the P-Zero's and a better than the SO-2's.
