Luka-P
After my little Fezz blew its guts out over the M60 last night I decided I'd go on the hunt for a little workhorse. I've found a Berlingo 1.9 on a 2002 plate but it has a bit of a problem. Its blowing a fair amount of smoke through the exhaust which leads me to think its the head gasket? Its had alot of work on it recently but the guy wanted rid. There's no mayo on the oil filler cap. It starts and drives but with not much power and lots of smoke. Its with me now, towed it home. Any ideas? Luke
peter richards
could be bent valves , not sure how similar to my old kangoo it is , but after the aux belt got under the timing belt it was never the same huge loss of power and smokey ,
Luka-P
Its only just started doing this apparently and had the cambelt done recently. Ill probably pull the head off tomorrow, check the valves and gasket. Anything else I might need to look into? Its had new injectors recently also. Luka-P
I dont think its a timing issue. It ran ok after the belt was changed but then this began all of a sudden. Could be EGR but I dont think it would smoke that much. Its more of a plume!

Luka-P
Didnt realise you had brought it. Lol cheers dude. For the price I paid I didn't need to think about it! Got the head off anyway and the gasket was Buffalo Joe'd. Also the end of the fast idle cable is broken, so Ill have to get a new one or new end. Luka-P
Did the headgasket but its still smoking. Re-lapped all the valves and put new stem seals on etc. The EGR valve looks quite bad so Ill do that tomorrow. Anyone else have any opinions? bignum
You never said what colour the smoke is,,?
merckx
Injection pump timing? Injectors?
Luka-P
I wouldnt call it white smoke, more grey, but not enough to be black. I suspect it may be worn rings, need to get it compression tested. The injectors are brand new and the pump timing was done when I did the H/G so probably not that.
