Steve
Well when mine was blocked a couple of years back, i used some 'One shot' drain cleaner. I poured it into the hose connected to the matrix, left it for 10 minutes then started flushing water through. Repeated this around 3 times, until i got a nice flow of water, then left it running for 20 minutes to make sure it was all out. If you do use that stuff, be very careful, i had to use gloves, goggles etc. Its 90% hydrochloric acid. It ate through everything including my jeans . If i did it again i would dilute it. Mine was fine, but yours could be different.
Scooter
- Engine temp is getting too high how quickly did that happen?
Homer
how quickly did that happen? Not quickly. After a few drives up and down the road, then 5 minutes idling it started rising above the halfway point on the gauge so I turned it off. It takes 10-15 minutes total before it gets to the half way point, but it appears to warm up to that point far quicker than my last supra did so something isn't right. Scooter
....... indeed I mentioned it as those with a blocked/by passed matrix don't suffer general engine overheating........ I'd do the flush/reverse flush on the matrix as suggested and see if its the same.....but i fear it will be!?
Homer
I'd do the flush/reverse flush on the matrix as suggested and see if its the same.....but i fear it will be!? I'll do that. If it is the same, what are you suggesting? buggered water pump? It seems to be working as far as I can tell. There's no sign of any other issue and have done two HC tests on the coolant so doesn't seem to be a hg issue, no water trace in the oil either. supra_aero
Had a similar problem, but car kept overheating as you described. Tried several bleeding methods and nowt worked. Took car to whifbitz and it turned out radiator was partially blocked. He had some contraption which sucked all the crap out - or blew it out (Cant remember which way). 10 mins later car was sorted. I spent weeks to months trying to work it out taking car to various garages. I reckon if you try all the above suggested, taking the car to a specialist is worth its weight in gold. Hope you get it sorted.
megawatts
Cleaned out Matrix, and checked hoses. Discovered thermostat has been removed, engine runs on full cool all the time. Tried putting a thermostat in, and engine over heats very quickly. Not losing coolant, so its nota herad gasket. Why should engine over heat so badly with the thermostat? Running freezing cold, with just a trickle of slight heat from the matrix.
Kev.O
Did you sort this in the end Homer? What was the problem/answer?
Homer
I posted a later thread here: http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=180415 But since then have not touched the supra, no time
