Jamesy W
I've decided I want to get rid of some of my unwanted jewellery, Ideally I want to sell it to a gold buyer as oppose to going to a pawn shop. I'm just wondering has anyone on here ever used a company like http://www.scrapgolduk.co.uk/ I thought it would be best to ask opinions on this rather than just throw it in an envelope and cross my fingers. The price I'm getting from them is rather good - over 1k for 200g of gold. I can't see a pawn shop being competitive with that.

Jamesy W
get it punted for that kinda cash Jamsey I know mate but I'm a little weary, just sending it away if you know what I mean. I've booked a surprise holiday for my mum and sis, so this will cover that. Seams silly to have it just lying collecting dust. Besides my chav days are over.......I think. Think what you could buy for the supra with that cash though I'm not even contemplating buying anything from it......maybe a magic tree. Very very tempting though. I've tried google to find some buyers in glasgow but not found any as of yet. Most appear to be around London.

edge
When we send money into work we use silver envelopes that cover us for upto £2k. May worth going into the post office and asking.

Hya Jamesy, is it 9ct or 18ct gold or mixed ? £5 per gram is good if its mainly 9ct gold,. if its 18ct then £5 per gram is average,we pay upto £6 a gram for 18ct. But yes,£5 a gram for 9ct is good, average price is around £3.5 - £4 per gram.
Jamesy W
Hya Jamesy, is it 9ct or 18ct gold or mixed ? To be honest Darren, I haven't the foggiest. Would you say a company like this is perfectly legitimate? One of the other I was looking at wanted bank account and sort code, that's what has me thinking otherwise. When we send money into work we use silver envelopes that cover us for upto £2k. May worth going into the post office and asking. Cheers for that mate, I'll look into it. One of the other I was looking at wanted bank account and sort code, that's what has me thinking otherwise. : They prob wanted you bank account info to debit your bank account instead of sending a cheque ? im not sure, 9ct gold will have a small "375" on it somewhere, and 18ct will have a "750" i would also seperate anything with diamonds and seperate 18ct from 9ct gold too,. you might end up getting more money, Im not sure who my gaffer uses to sell his bulk gold but he usualy collects a few ounces of gold from me once a month. The company you give the link too above look ok by there website, they go into a lot of detail, there probably going to be ok
Jamesy W
Yeah that's why they were asking for it, just struck me a bit odd, as I thought it would be cheque or nothing. Plus in these times you can't help being a little over cautious when dealing over the internet. I'll have no way of identifying what carat each is, I'm just gonna guess it's all 9ct. That way anything else is a bonus. Thanks again.
Jamesy W
So I took Edge's advice and sent off my gold in one of those silver envelopes yesterday. I've just received a call from a Paul Richards who works there. "Just calling to inform you that we will be sending out a check for £837 today" he said:blink: Obviously I was a bit shocked as I had been quoted over a grand online. So I politely informed him I'd prefer he just send the gold back, as I feel their evaluation is way off considering it was 199.9g He then informed me that "his calculations were wrong" and that he would be sending out a cheque for £1076.38 Rather chuffed with that tbh, although I do feel he tried to Donald Duck me.
