It has a revolutionary gas fuel injection system that complements a conventional engine for low CO2 emissions and great performance. What’s more, the hydrogen is generated inside the car. Water from an on-board 1.5-gallon tank is broken down into its basic elements of hydrogen and oxygen through the process of electrolysis. The gas is then mixed with petrol and injected into the air-intake manifold. As a result, significantly less fossil fuel is used, while performance is better than that of a traditional engine because of hydrogen’s high octane rating. The Scorpion develops 300bhp from its Honda-sourced 3.5-litre V6 powerplant – yet it is capable of returning 40mpg. Plus, RMC has unveiled a twin-turbocharged HX version that delivers 450bhp, sprints from 0-60mph in around 3.5 seconds and reaches a top speed in excess of 200mph. The groundbreaking combustion system has been dubbed ‘H2GO’ by company insiders. From January, RMC will be offering it as an aftermarket kit for any car for around £600. It’s said to improve economy by up to 25 per cent. The Scorpion goes on sale next year, with the initial production run limited to 200 units. The standard car will cost around £95,000, with the HX closer to £160,000.
