SilverSoop
Hi all, now as everyone will know, I have a rattling noise coming from somewhere in my Gearbox on idle and stops as soon as the Clutch is depressed... (she has a stock flywheel and clutch) I had my gearbox taken out to check whether it was something do with the Clutch or Flywheel...it was fine... Now recently, I have been driving with the stereo off and have noticed a weird sound with what I think is coming from the gearbox. It is more noticeable at low speeds but can be heard at around 40-50 mph. It sounds like a grinding/metallic sort of noise, all the gears are smooth and works fine, no problems there... At first, I thought it was coming from behind the dash but after I listened to the gearbox on idle, the grinding/metallic noise sounded like it was coming from the gearbox along with the rattling it makes... Any ideas anyone??

SilverSoop
Thrust bearing? BTW: Your Sig: "Jasma exhaust" Lol, I have no idea what exhaust it is, something Japanese though! Nah, it's not my thrust bearing, my Clutch is fine and so is my Flywheel...

j1mb0b1
yeah i had the same problem turned out to be something to do with my gear linkage bushers or something like that, What had happend was the gear linkage had droped slightly and was ratterling on top and gearbox, started off as a little rattle at like 3000 revs then it was all time and also at stand still, and when i put my clutch down a little it always stopped it, well worth a look at it mate, turned out not to be a pricey job to so happy days it was for me
edge
Spigot bearing been changed? Very cheap from toyota too. Can cause excessive wear on box if knackered. As above all the selector shaft assembly been checked? The rubber bushes also perish on the A-frame section where the gear selector sits in the box but normally just gives a poor gearchange feel but worth a look. merckx
Its 90% your thrust bearing. I think I would've fitted a new thrust bearing when the gearbox was off, maybe a new clutch too.
D8MOA
Its 90% your thrust bearing. ime goin to go with the other 10% and say its someting else could be a bearing in the gearbox itself!!!
