osso
I doubt he would want the special treatment or privilage of a state funeral considering so many of his comrades died in WWI.

Max Headroom
Whilst his comrades fought and died in WW1, to be remembered on a roll call of honour, the greatest thing we can do is remember what they died for and not let them fade into obscurity. Harry Patch is the living reminder of a terrible time "Lest We Forget"
stevie_b
He's not the last remaining serving WWI veteran. For example: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henry_Allingham is the oldest UK WWI veteran and Britain's oldest man. I'm not detracting from what Mr Patch and others did though. Words like "horrific" are over-used by the media these days to describe what happens when someone gets voted off Strictly Come I'm an X Factor On Ice, but some of the things those service-men and -women saw was truly horrific. I take my hat off to them.
Ark
Don't you think that maybe you're campaigning for something for _your_ benefit, rather than Mr Patch's benefit? You want to give him a fancy funeral, where he may well not want one, his family might not want it - to me it sounds like a façade to make the nation feel better about not treating veterans and the war-wounded very well. For example: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henry_Allingham is the oldest UK WWI veteran and Britain's oldest man. So the petition is bogus then. As has also already been pointed out, I'm sure that they wouldn't want to be singled out like this just because they've managed to survive longer. merckx
What about the other RAF and Navy survivors then? Yeah that, isn't there five altogether? Even if he did want a state funeral it wouldn't be right if there are others still alive.
Need4Speed
I read his book and he seems to be bemused by all the fuss made over him. Does he want a state funeral?
Ark
Plus I couldn't put my name to such an terribly written petition. Does the author punctuate text by printing it out and playing "pin the tail on the donkey" with it?
