mintedm
Looking to buy a right good maglite anyone have any recommendations? bigger torch not the wee keyring ones
juanchan
The 3 or 4 D-battery ones I'd say. The 6 battery one is enormous and unweildly.
merckx
I've got the 4D Maglite, the build quality is good but the light output isn't really anything special at all. I was having a look on the Autoexpress website last night and they tested some torches. http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/products/products/211282/torches.html
tbourner
If it's for whacking then the 4 cell is the one. If it's for brightness, go for a Fenix or Surefire or something.
Dave17
Naaa get the 6 cell, it's massive and will easily brain someone!
Shadow Beast
like the others have said, depends on what you r going to use it for, i have a 6 cell in the which i use when i lock up the salon late at night! i also have a 3 and 4 cell ones which i have acquired via the army on various tours, but.................... if your after shear light out put then you wont go far wrong with a surefire. richie

mintedm
lol not interested in hitting people with it, thats what my fists or feet are for, need it for good light
bigcol
I use a 4D its not too heavy and clumsy like the 6D (and just in case you ever did need to hit someone or something they are just as good) Ive had mine 5 years now and apart from battries ive never had a problem and its almost unbreakable, thats my recommendation anyway:d
Babe
I've got a four cell, and had a six cell (it died)... wouldn't bother again - they're heavy and the light they give out is crap! There are much better light sources out there - Sprog has some kind of LED wind-up thing and it outdoes my Maglite, and doesn't require batteries! EDIT: I've only kept the four cell in case someone tries to get into my tent at night (think they'd get quite a headache) - it's all they're good for as far as I'm concerned! Babe
u say the light it gives out is crap, is this with the led upgrade?does this make a differnce? Sorry if I confused you... Maglite doesn't have an upgrade, it's just a glorified baseball bat really! But... my kid (The Sprog) has an LED torch and that is really good, is far brighter than my Maglite, and the light goes further too. Plus it's wind-up so no batteries required! (Maglites eat batteries.)
merckx
Sorry if I confused you... Maglite doesn't have an upgrade, it's just a glorified baseball bat really! Looks like they do, expensive though for their own upgrade module http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/MAGLITE-LED-Upgrade-Module-3D-Retro-Fit_W0QQitemZ400007032823QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item400007032823&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1345%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318

(Maglites eat batteries.) have tpo disagree with you there, i have a 3D cell mag and have used it for 9 years for all sorts of things from walking the dog to shooting around dusk time/low light and the batteries in my mag have lasted for bloody ages. The light output isn't to bad either, especially if you buy the magnum bulbs instead of the normal ones (they're only a quid or so more) which give you over 80lumens on a 3D cell or 120 on a 4Dcell, surefire P6's give around 80 lumens. Plus they're bullet proof.
Nicolai
Dont buy maglights mate we got total of 5 of them (rechargeble) but after 1 day of work the batts are empty. And the light output is rather bad for the money.

Havard
I used to have two Maglights and neither of them were particularly special. Save your money and just go for a run of the mill torch......
