Car for the wife?

I've decided the best thing is for me to buy a car for the missus so she can learn to drive ahead of giving birth to our child. However she won't be using it much so there's no point in both of us having a car until the baby is born (waste of money on 2x tax, insurance etc. etc.). So once the supra's sold I'll buy her one.

Therefore what's a good car that women tend to like, that's a safe car to carry babies/kids in, and something that I won't look a prat driving for the next 5 months? Not fussed about it being petrol or diesel, won't be doing enough miles to warrant the extra cost of the diesel probably (10k a year, moving to a lot less once the baby's born and only she drives it), and she's not too fussed about power. Budget is looking around the £5k mark probably, and must have 4 doors.

Then come April, not only will I gain a new son/daughter, but also get me a nice powerful car again as will have saved more money between now and then :eyebrows:

1) An MK1 Audi TT

2) A mazda rx7

3) BMW 750il V12

The TT is always a favourite with women and can be bought for around the 5k mark

1) Not got 4 doors....;)

2) Far too thirsty (worse than the supe), for £5k I'd expect some issues with that engine that won't be cheap as well

3) Far too big for her, something she's not really going to learn to drive in to be honest

she hasn't passed her test, so needs to be something a learner can get insured on as well without costing a fortune

firtsly guys it's a car for the wife (my considerations come second), who's not into fast cars as mentioned, so please forget the sports cars (including estates)

And secondly it's more likely to be hatchback I'd have thought so she doesn't bang it into everything in sight.

Cheap to run, insure and easy for a learner to use please......

Therefore what's a good car that women tend to like

1. As small as possible so they can get it parked inbetween the white lines at the shops.

2. A seat so they can put it forward enough to make the airbag ineffective aswell as being able to see over the dashboard.

3. Massive rearview mirror for applying the cover all makeup stuff.

Ford Focus TDCI Diesel, Ford make extremely good cars nowadays ;)

Jen got a Mini one earlier in the year and absolutely loves it

but in my opinion is it is very under powered and we should of found a Cooper or a Cooper S:eyebrows:.

The boot is very small thou and the rear seats are useable, but not spacious and fuel economy is very bad for a small car.

I am now trying to convince her to let the Mini go and get a Lexus IS 200:D
