Kevin Huntley
I suspect the answer must be yes! but whenever I have seen a clutch advertised forsale they never say whether its for the auto or manual car! So maybe they are the same, any ideas? Cheers

Alex
Manual = Clutch Auto = Torque Converter 2 totally different pieces of kit. That http://www.howstuffworks.com site may help explain further
paulrenn
ROTFLMAO...were you wondering why Sparco only sold you a 2 piece pedal extension set?!

Alex
Sorry Kevin, But that is gunna go down as one of the all time best questions...that's as good as Brad's "How many spark plugs do I need to buy?" Thanks for giving us all a chukle though I hope my previous link helps you understand it all more... put in the search box torque converter - there is a full report on one at the howstuffworks web site. Mark Ayling
Yeah apologies, no offence intended - but we do get some classics on here....!
Gareth Davies
I don't think you people are being fair... there are clutches in an automatic gearbox, just not in the same capacity as a manual one. Sticking with Alex's reference strategy... http://www.howstuffworks.com/automatic-transmission4.htm
Branners
and the general principle with the autos is the more clutches you can put in the stronger it will be... But in answer to the question, I dont think you will ever see an auto clutch advertised as such, they are sold as an upgrade kit which normally includes a high stall torque converter. Digsy
Here's the lockup clutch in the MKIV auto box. Make sure you have one of those metric adjustable spanners to get it off
Guest Terry S
That has made my night:D The autos do have clutch which you can upgrade, but they are nothing like a manual one!
Kevin Huntley
OK, guy's how dumb do I feel now! I obviously new there was no clutch pedal in an automatic, but I thought somewhere in the auto box there may have been the same clutch disk and presure plate. Obviously not! I was also slightley mis-lead by the fact that on the RPS and clutchmasters website the 6sp had a seperate listing! Oh well at least I know now. You must be able to tell I have never owned an automatic car! Pleased I made your night!
Kevin Huntley
At fear of being evicted from this BBS forever, may I ask one more dumb ass question! Is there any difference between UK (6SP) model Supra clutch and US (6SP) model clutch? I am off to hide in Nuclear bunker at the bottom of the garden to save myself from the flames!:flame Dev Cheers:)
Paul Whiffin
I think your pretty safe here Kev, don't worry. Clutches are exactly the same yes.
Guest Terry S
No problem Kevin. That's exactly how to learn. All comments were meant in good humour I am sure.
Bradb
I recall asking the same question mate. I went into my garage and said I think my auto box clutch is slipping. The laughs as the technicians rolled around the floor holding there sides. You're amongst friends here.
Gareth Davies
That was after you asked them about how many spark plugs would you need right? You've never been up on charges of killing poor innocent car mechanics have you Brad? I must say I used to think it was as Kevin described... however I was 8 at the time

Need4Speed
Kevin Don't worry about hiding in the bunker, there are plenty of people out there right now checking their adjustable spanners to see if theirs is metric. You don't need to know how it works to enjoy your Supra. Many people know little about their Supras or they wouldn't ask so many questions on this bbs. You will learn a lot about Supras here - I have! ps. my adjustable spanner says 10" on it, does that mean it isn't metric?

Need4Speed
Terry Or it's neither and I wouldn't consider it a tool for use on a Supra. Plumbing maybe!
