Like it say's really anyone got any experience with campervans?

Want to get one to travel round europe but not sure which route to take, either go for the classics VW camper..etc. or get something newer like a Mazda Bongo...or maybe even a normal commercial van and fit it out...any advice?? :(

Now this I can help you with!

I've had motorhomes for the last 10 years or so and I wouldn't be without one.

Just bought a new one and picking it up on Saturday, Oh the excitement. :D

The only downside is when I think what sort of exotic cars I could have bought for the same money :)

It depends on how comfortable you want to be, and how much you want, or can afford to spend.

The smaller ones, IMHO, are OK for overnights and weekends, but for 2 or more people to spend any length of time in them, without killing each other, :stickpoke you need a bit more space.

Personally I like my home comforts, like a shower compartment and a toilet, as well as Fridge/freezer, cooker, easily accessible beds that you don't have to pull cushions around and move tables etc. But it must be said that we normally go away in the summer for a month, so you need a bit of comfort to keep your sanity.

I'm hoping to fit a PS2 in the new one, so I can continue being crap at GT4 and GTA san andreas, it really will be home from home then :D

I don't know where you live, but if you're close to me, or fancy the drive, you're more than welcome to have a look around my one(s). I've still got the old one at the moment, so it'll give you some idea of what you get for your money at both ends of the price scale.

i've got a 1973 VW Camper Van with the 1.7 twin carb T4 engine :D

its great fun, its not a fast vehicle by any stretch of the imagination but if you can get a 2 litre type 4 engined one it will happily sit at 70 - 80 on the motorway.

i've spent many a weekend in cornwall with the back of the van full of surfboards and wetsuits. the other thing is it turns as many heads if not more than the supra!

its been pretty reliable so far (although it now needs to have the crank case split to repair a broken oil pickup due to my old mans need to overtighten every bolt :twak: )

it gets about 25 - 28mpg at motorway speed and has a very comfortable driving position, we have done a few distance runs in it (scotland and the lake district) and it has never missed a beat.

parts are cheep and plentifull for them too so if something does go wrong its easy enough to sort it out :)

hope this helps mate
