Whitesupraboy2
Hi, with the uk model they were only made between 1993 - 1996, meaning all pre-facelift. So all either manual or auto (obviously some optional extras) Yes all UK supras come with the larger UK brakes. If insurance is main reason for getting a UK then ok, if it is not dont rule out a jap import, some come with the larger UK brakes as optional extra as well as being able to get the targe top Auto. (UK models do not come in Targa form)
Dale B
Hi and welcome. There are lots of discussions on this forum about UK v Jspec but IMHO the differences are marginal and I have no problems either way (even though I have a UK). There is a difference with regard to insurance costs, but really thats about it. Youll be struggling to get a UK 6TT for £9000 unless its high miles and crap service history. Just keep on the forum, look at various posts, and find the right one for you. There are a few traders / importers on here and they'll all offer you good advice and not take your eyes out. Good luck with the hunt
The Hornet
parts & mods are readily available for both UK & J-Spec so don't worry about that side of things. Oh, and welcome to the forum matey.
Stonkin
Thanks for all ur comments guys. Out of interest i have been quoted £919 with 5 yrs no claims (protected) , 5 points, for either a jap spec or a uk model. For a 23 yr old i didnt think that was to bad? Chris Wilson
Buy a Jap spec car, they won't have seen much salt. Most UK ones i now see are starting to rust, and it's hard to find a low mileage UK car. Get a stock J-Spec, no body kit, no funny wheels, no comic book mods. Get someone who knows the cars to check over any potential purchase. Don't buy or put a deposit on any car you haven't physically driven. Just my 2 pennorth... You will pic up a JDM car with less than 30k on the clock with out too much difficulty. I have had mine nearly five years and it has not hit 40K yet. Mine was as Chris desribed above when I got it. The only stock part I have had to replace are boot rubbers and SMIC at nine years old. I try not to use it on salty roads. Dont worry about ceramic turbos, very few fail in reality and then only when they are pushed well beyond what they were intended to do. Terminator
Where are do they start to go Chris? Any particular place above all others? Don't know about UK's but I have seen at least four JDM cars fall victim to what appears to be and injection mold mark on the rear tail gate window rubber. On the corners of window the rubber seal may have a small protrusion under the rubber in contact with the paint. Over time the vibrations of normal driving cause the rubber to eat into the paint. I found the same little bit of rubber on my car, but no signs of damage, so cut it off with a sharp blade to make the surface flush with the rest of the seal and hopefully cured the problem. Sounds a bit of a dodgy quote TBH mate, either they have not quoted you correctly on the J Spec version, or they have quoted you fully on a MKIII not the MKIV, which is more common than you would think. Make sure that A-Plan have got all of the details correct for your quote and don't expect them to understand the differences.
Stonkin
hi Ben, i was very curious myself, all details are correct, they specialise in japanese cars, it makes no odds to them if its a uk spec or jap. And this was definetly for a 95 car, If anyone wants to give em a call if theres is coming up for renewal, their number is 08450 71 12 34. There is a nice black 1 in autotrader, this was the ind of thing i was thinking of: 1995 TOYOTA Supra 3.0 Twin Turbo UK Car, N reg. 89000 miles, FTSH, Automatic 326 Bhp, full leather interior, AC, cruise + traction control, full e/pack, in excellent condition throughout, HPi clear. £8,950. RA MOTORSTel: 07817 402778 Distance: 165 miles Price: £8,
Bobbeh
Very sound advice from an expert. What he said was true, but what he failed to mention is that the J-SPECs are not actually treated with any protective coating/understeal etc as the UK's are, so if you get a nice J-spec on salt free roads, I wouldnt mind betting that they'll soon start rusting up after a couple of winters over here. tbourner
They usually get coated when they arrive though - isn't it part of the SVA test? I've got tons of black goo all over my bottom!!!
Stonkin
i had read that the japs werent under coated, but as you say they might be done during the sva test
Tom
Mines coated nicely too, all I will say about uk cars is that there is a lot less hassel with them ie, insurance quotes are easier to find, no need to convert the speedo/odo, no need to upgrade fuel pump, fit restrictor rings, turbo's can run higher boost more safely, larger brakes on the car already. you can buy j's with this but only from what the previous owner has done, might be worth searching on here for members cars that are for sale as it will save you a lot of money! and seeing as you don't mind the auto's you've opened up a much wider choice of cars too look at. Stonkin
I have a question, what is a BPU car? is it something to do with single turbo's? or am i totally wrong :-) Were any cars produced with just siungle turbos, were they uk or jap spec? i always presumed it was just 3.0 N/A and twin turbos But through reading more i seem to be wrong Thanks for your help people
Muffleman
BPU is Basic Performance Upgrade - the upgrades that most do ie Exhaust, Filter, etc.
