I have ACE 18"'s with 8.5 - same tires as yours by the sound of it No problems Paul:cool:
Justin
Have you guys got 8.5's on all four wheels? Can someone explain to me why 8.5 is too small and 9.5 is ok for the rear? Does 1 inch make that much difference? (Ooh err missus) Is it too small as in imminent chance of death by crashing or just not recommended? For what reasons? Thanks for being patient with me as I don't know about this stuff yet. I am looking for a certain type of wheel and like the above guys I think they only come in 8.5's but I don't want to buy them if they are bad for my car. randy
I would recommend you buy wheels which have a width of 9"front and 10" rear! So you can run broader tires which would help in traction/braking and also give your car a more aggresive look. IMO!!
Branners
The reason why the rears are 9.5 is to get a 255 tyre on there comfortably. You can go to 275 on a 9.5" wheel but that is probably pushing it a bit. It all depends how you want a car to handle. Toyota built the Supra to handle as well as possible within the parameters for each country, the UK spec has softer suspension to make it comfortable on UK roads, but that makes it handle a bit worse than an import. They fitted 255 tyres to the rear to give the best grip without overdoing the tyre width and also keeping the cost down. The maximum you should consider fitting to an 8.5" wheel is 255, which only really gives you the same tyre as a stock Supra has. Which is normally okay but a little bit wider does help with grip.
