Guest jtt97
I have been having a clanking noise coming from the rear of my car for awhile. I finally found where it is coming from. I installed Koni adjustables and the center nut will not tighten down all the way so the clanking is coming from the top mount of the shock. When I push up and down on the rear corner I can see it is coming from the top of the shock mount moving where the center nut is. I have not yet figured out how to fix this since the nut spins and will not tighten or even loosen and the shaft is not spinning. I don't know if the threads are damaged or something. Has anyone seen this before or have any ideas or suggestions of what I can do. I've installed shocks before but never seen this. What am I missing. BTW this is a 97 TT. please help. Thanks. Need4Speed
That sounds to me like a stripped thread. If the nut is turning and the damper rod isn't and the nut's not coming off, what else can it be? My bet is the nut has stripped not the damper rod. Can you get a nut splitter on it? Chris Wilson
Sounds like the top hat spacer has been left out. Strip it down and see what's missing / damaged. Compare it to the other side if you need a reference.
