hadyn
Does anyone know of any performance estates under 10 grand that can compare to stock/BPU level Supras? I've looked at legacy tt estates, stageas etc etc but is there anything else?
Thorin
I'd be looking at diesels, BMW 330D monstrous amount of torque with a remap.
hadyn
A 330D could keep up with a TT Supra????
Thorin
They're 290BHP and around 440ft-lbs torque with a remap I believe. Much more torque than a stock TT, but a heavier car. I think they're around 6 seconds to 60.
michael
A 330D could keep up with a TT Supra???? A 318i with 4 people in can so I would think so, I suspect he's factored in a remap and it won't "keep up" as such but it won't get blown into the weeds. What about a J-Spec Impreza Wagon in STi trim? http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/742795.htm Forester STi for the rarity factor? http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/737292.htm S4 Avant? http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/744597.htm Maybe an Alfa 156 3.2 V6 GTA Sportwagon? Not as quick as a Supra though.
ozz
Modified scooby sportswagon? Pretty rapid, lighter than the legacy IIRC. 2000/2001 models are the nicest looking and best performance, the later models are hideous and heavier. hadyn
Dont like Foresters, Scoob estates are ten a penny by me, dont want to be appear like another wanker in an Audi and an Alfa will break down all the time. Any other ideas?
ozz
Hmm, you're not leaving yourself many options. How about a Gallant? Rare cars, probably can be tuned up.
hadyn
Again suspect build quality with the Galant. I do like the idea of one of those new shape Evo estates though, despite the notorious poor mitsubooshi build quality..

michael
Any other ideas? Yeah, tell us what you know you don't want so we don't waste our time trying to help.
hadyn
Steady there Michael, I'm only asking for opinions, I'm not attacking anyone or anything like that
jamesmark
Yeah, tell us what you know you don't want so we don't waste our time trying to help. Was about to say that. Does it have to be the same performance as the Supra? What is it being used for that requires it to be the same as or close to a BPU supra. As there are a few to choose from that are around the 8 second mark i.e. Volvo T5-r or the Omega MV6 (think those are the models)
michael
Steady there Michael, I'm only asking for opinions, I'm not attacking anyone or anything like that I know, it's just that you seem to have established hang-ups about most of the performance estates already so if you tell us what you definitely don't want we might be able to fill in the gaps How much room do you actually need? lockys96
buy a sleeper then!!! a crappy estate that you like the look of for 4K and spend 6k putting the supra engine in
hadyn
He doesn't like Audis. Sorry I should have made that clearer, I hate new skool Audis and the horrific image they project to other road users. Old skool Audi is still coolio The RS2 does 0-60 in 5seconds right? That sounds like a Supra estate tom me
ozz
Odd, I think of the newer audi as being an edgier choice than the mercs, porkers and BMs that sit in that price range. Loving the RS4/RS6.

Muffleman
You can get a '52 plate C32 AMG Estate for less than £9k, 354bhp apparently
hadyn
In my experience (and I dont expect everyone to agree with me) I find new Audi drivers to be ignorant, aggressive and quite frankly dangerous. They're the new breed of BMW 1990s drivers. I dunno if its the fact they get these things as company cars and think they're gods or something, but any nearly new Audi I come across is usually doing something irritating on the road. The whole badge screams 'middle england on cocaine' to me

michael
Seems a shame to discount some excellent cars just because of the stigma you've attached to some of the current owners.
