StuartW
Need an uprated oil pump for my Drag Project (See link in my sig) Gonna rev to 8000+ Been advised to go for the PHR or Sound Performance ones. If anyone has any opinions on this or a spare NEW one in stock please let me know Cheers
StuartW
I Know one problem is the crank seal incorperated in the pump blows out, They use Machine screws to hold the lip of the seal in place! Also a mod to the spring oil pressure valve and an enlarged Oil return are favourit mods. Has anybody done this succesfully enough to give me the specs on sizes/shims etc
Paul Whiffin
I run a stock oil pump in my car, no problems with any leaks, seals popping out, etc. Why run anything else? Waste of money if you ask me.
SimonB
I agree. And for God's sake don't use machine screws to hold the seal in!
StuartW
See Sound performance website they use screws!! http://www.spracingonline.com/store/SP_Modified_Toyota_Oil_Pump_93-98_Supra/3623 IMO If done properly not a bad MOD
Paul Whiffin
There's really no need unless there's a problem elsewhere with the engine.
Chris Wilson
Do you want some self tappers to hold the rad cap on, too? `Cos that sot of thing is a similar crutch to mask other problems.

OK Guys Point taken i will stick with the stock one..Its easier anyways just thought i would need one as many other Drag users do the same. BUT i take advice from those i believe in p.s. no mention of self tappers..MACHINE screws but again point taken. If crankcase pressure is up enough to blow the seal then compression must be pants, Thus masking another problem.
Gaz Walker
We've ran the SP oil pump for years. Sorry to sound condescending gentlemen (Paul, your excused because you run very high boost in your car ) but this is an important mod on high boost, high horsepower 2JZ drag car. Chris Wilson
Did they leak, or blow out of the pump housing?
Gaz Walker
Did they leak, or blow out of the pump housing? They leaked. We tried new seals and pumps. Then we discovered the SP one...
Paul Whiffin
Did you change anything else at the same time or just the SP pump?
Gaz Walker
Did you change anything else at the same time or just the SP pump? No just the pump IIRC. That lasted until we killed the engine at TOTB last year when snapped 4 crank caps. Then we put another one in with the new engine and still haven't had any problems since. Gaz.
