hogmaw
I just bought a humane trap. No way can I kill it. I only kill mossies and wasps.
garethr
Under the Grey Squirrels (Prohibition of Importation & Keeping) Order 1937 it's illegal to free a grey squirrel once it's been captured (unless you have a licence), so you are legally obliged to kill it. I think eating it is optional.
keancy
I just bought a humane trap. No way can I kill it. I only kill mossies and wasps. Once you got it in the trap I suggest a very long drive in the Supra (I am sure it will be appreciated lol) to let it go otherwise it will come straight back no doubt. I think eating it is optional. Yes the RSPCA told me that. So I will have to release it in the bushes under cover of darkness. (I'll make sure it is somewhere other than Hampstead Heath:Pling:)
tbourner
Can't you feed it to the pigs? If you don't have pigs a dog will do. If no dog, cats? Are your family expecting turkey?
hogmaw
Gerard, if you're still in W10 then call RBK&C Environmental Health on 0207 361 3002. Thanks Doug but they will kill it, and I am a man of peace
lust2luv
Have you caught it yet? We had one on the side of our house the other day, clinging to the brickwork. Our cat went across the top of our side gate towards it, so it ran Matrix-style along the wall of the house and made around a 15 foot leap over our heads and the 7 foot fence onto our neighbour's lawn. Thing practically flew. Glad you're taking the humane approach. Try to video the capture.

SteveR
Squirrels love peanuts still in the shell, when my sister and I were kids we used to hand feed a wild one that eventually got tame enough to come into the house.
keancy
Squirrels love peanuts still in the shell, when my sister and I were kids we used to hand feed a wild one that eventually got tame enough to come into the house. Where as the one I had in my garden a few years ago just used to climb up my slippery metal washing Pole dangled itself across the washing line to get the Nuts out the Bird Feeder. And God forbid a Magpie wanted some nuts while the Squirrel was about, it literally chased the Birds across the garden till they flew off. Was quite entertaining to watch. Terminator
Feed it rat poison. These little bastards are a menace. I had them in my loft for two years before finally getting rid of them. They cost me a fortune, there are very clever. They ignored traps, tipped poison out of trays and put the empty trays in their nest FFS. Tried shooting the little buggers but they were too quick. They caused £1000's of damage. anyone who tells you these are nice little creatures has not got a clue. Rats with good PR. Get rid of it at all costs. You must find out where it gets in and block up the hole. I expect you have more than one, if they /it bite through a cable, your building could burn down. Good luck, you may need it. They are really dangerous in a building they can gnaw and chew anything give enough time.
Safely Insured
Flying rats!! Oh wait, that's pigeons.. My mate had squirrels, he used to catch them in a trap and then shoot them. I was invited to a squirrel shoot when he caught two.. I still feel traumatised
