SteveR
Very, very odd: http://io9.com/5077742/students-quarantined-in-university-as-epidemic-unfolds For the past few days, university students in the Southern Chinese resort town of Hainan have been quarantined on the grounds of the Hainan University campus with little food or water. Apparently there's been an outbreak of cholera, and the local officials dealt with it Resident Evil style: Lock everybody in, give them no information, and see if they survive. But one woman student has been blogging about the ongoing ordeal, posting pictures and giving status updates several times a day. Translated blog here. Pete
Wow. Amazing what's going on in the world isn't it?
hogmaw
Looks like the Chinese officials are wholly ignorant of cholera and how to treat it. Quarantine won't do anything, if anything it will make things worse by keeping people in close proximity to each other. The disease is from a bacterium that is spread through bad hygeine. The first thing that should be done is to make sure sanitation is in order, especially the provision of clean water supplies and proper removal of waste/sewage. It still amazes me that such things can happen in China. The Olympics was a massive PR campaign to the rest of the world so show that China isn't all that bad - and like the suckers we are, it worked. MrRalphMan
Do you think a lonely camcorder will be found once they are all dead and a film made of it?
heartworm
This sounds just like a Stephen King short story, If it ends anytthing like the story, we should all get worried

We should just send in the S.T.A.R.S team and deal with 'em Racoon city style.
KaoriFan
interesting article Steve, had not seen that, or heard about it before. i will stay away from the University area when i am there in a few weeks. funny thing with this, article says Hainan University is in resort town of Hainan, but it is in Haikou. there is no Hainan town or city. really did enjoy reading the translated blog. good to get a first hand perspective

Ian C
That does sound like Patient Zero in World War Z - a truly excellent book if you want a 'realistic' and worldwide, long-term take on the zombie ethos. I lent my copy to someone and now I can't remember -Ian

That's the badger The blog has been updated since I originally posted. Seems they are still being held in quarantine... Rumors are everywhere. We are full of expectations for signs that things are getting better. But the school has sent notices to each and every person: the school will still be under quarantine until at least Monday. The inspections will be even more rigorous than before. There is no need for us to go outside of the university. If we skip too many classes, we will be dismissed. Disinfections occurs twice a day in the dormitories.
