My wife got a £60 fine and an order to have her Beetle quieter within 7 days (unsilenced air cooled flat four) when she was pootling along the high street 12 years ago. Have a mechanic buddy who said if you get pulled they can call for a decibel test to charge you, but that fact that you got one just because this guy thought so...quite scared by that prospect.
