Duffman
Need to get some mods fitted...in a bit of a dilemma whether to take it to a garage to get fitted(have spoke to duncan at hypertech he's given me price) or give it a go myself. Mods are as follows Cat-back exhaust 1st decat RR Walbro fuel pump FCD The father in law is a mechanic but he's never worked on a supra so ain't to sure about that...would rather get it done right by a specialist. Reckon could get the cat-back, decat, RR, fuel pump fitted ok but worried about if the FCD...don't have a clue where to fit it. What do you guys think? Is it tricky to fit? Is it a risky job? ivan
There's FCD info including fitting instructions here: http://www.mkiv.com/techarticles/
Dave17
The exhaust, decat and RR should be easy enough to do by yourself with minimal knowledge. I did find the 1st decat a pig to get sorted though.
Sharpie
The bolts on the 1st decat can be a pain.....but doable.

Cheers Anyone else give their opinion on this please. Not too worried about the exhaust or RR...just the 1st decat which I anit too sure about...is it a case of simply removing the cat and fitting the decat....heard soemthing about an o-ring. Want to get the exhaust side of things done so I can keep my standard one at home...then going to take it to Hypertech to get Duncan to fit the rest and dyno'd. If anyone can tell me how to do this then please give me a phone on 07732689082 to save typing a message. Cheers
merckx
There's nothing unusual at all about the Supra when it comes to working on them, if you're father in law is a mechanic then he'll have no trouble at all. The FCD is wired in close to the ecu which is in the passenger footwell, nothing difficult and there's a wiring diagram on here somewhere. Fitting the fuel pump is straighforward too, there're are threads on here that will help. If you're father in law can't manage it then he's no mechanic. ADL Mark
As Merckx says, it's a Supra not a spaceship. Have a go yourself, there's guides on here for most things and it's not that difficult. Your father-in-law should be fine with it if he's a mechanic.

merckx
I think there's a o ring type seal in one of the joints but I can't remember which. Just buy some exhaust assembly paste type stuff . It's a paste that you put in the exhaust joins, you then fit exhaust/decat etc together and it fills any gaps. It hardens with heat going through the exhaust, use it liberally. http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_164909_langId_-1_categoryId_165625_partNumber_741520 Cheaper at your local car accessory shop, just ask for some exhaust assembly paste. ADL Mark
In fairness, some people have loads of trouble getting the nuts off the first decat, some have no problem at all (my UK had done 110k miles and they came off like new). That's the only item where a gun or some heat might help you and therefore need the garages equipment, but you don't need a supra specialist to get off a siezed bolt. So is it just a case off wherever the original o-ring comes off the cat...fit it directly onto the decat pipe?
Mike M
Hi mate, Duncans a good guy to deal with and knows his way around Supras but if you fancy doing it youself then its all do-able on the drive or garage. The only thing I havent done is fit an FCD. The 1st cat needs patience and a warmish day for being under the car, the copper seal rings are only for fitting between stock cats, the 2nd cat has a groove for the ring to seal against and my 1st decat is just pasted up onto the manifold. There is one nut on this cat that is awkward and is easy to round off if you dont get it right first time, the other fiddly bit is the bracket coming off the gearbox to support the cats. I had some fiddling to do to get this close to the pipe joint so the bolts would go through this. Cheers Mike
ShamelessTT
What about the "Walbro fuel pump" im thinking of doing the same as seanduffy123 Most ill do myself, but the fuel pump am i asking for KABOOM?

Mines not went kaboom yet. Hardest bit is getting that stupid big plastic retaining ring back on the right thread other than that just make sure the connections are shielded from each other, stagger the joints and use heat shield. merckx
So is it just a case off wherever the original o-ring comes off the cat...fit it directly onto the decat pipe? Just like what Mike has said, one of the nuts on the front cat is more awkward than the other two. You'll need a decent socket set with some long extensions. You don't need to use the o ring type seal at all. Use sufficient exhaust assembly paste to give a good seal, if some squeezes out when you're tightening the bolts it doesn't matter at all. To be honest you're probably better off getting someone else to fit the decat pipe, if you have very little or no experience of working on cars you'll more than likely wish you had got someone else to do it in the first place. China Man
I did my fuel pump change a few years back, read all the instruction you can find and make sure you got all the tools needed. If you don't feel like you can do it properly then don't. It was not difficult for me and it didn't go karboom yet
