Fault: Speed greed and throttle sensor!

Hey all, i have a few questions! Bought my first Supra couple of months back. From the beginnning it "reported" 2 engine faults. The first one was the throttle sensor - But i hope that its a regular fault, that can be fixed(like on other cars:)) without replacing anything....So my first questions should be, is it a normal failure and can(how?) it be fixed?

Second of all, the seller talked about the car having "Speed Greed", so it has had the speed limit removed, it is a non-turbo, i read that it might be a fuse that had been removed, i tjecked, and surely there was no fuse to the traction contr, i put one in, only(and this is a bit funny[OOPS][/OOPS] ) to find out that even though the car has a button to snow/trac. there are no connector plugged in on the backside.....

[/GRIN] I asume this could be because its a N/A..? If so, how do i get rid of the speed greed and the failure?

And yes, i know im abit of noob[GRIN]

, but hey im in to bodystyling?:)

Hello!

I'm, not sure what the seller meant by "speed greed". It's a curious phrase, and one I've never heard of before. Let's tackle thing one by one:

1) The engine faults logged with the ECU. I have heard of TPS errors, but the best thing to do is to post the actual code numbers up here, and we can advise you properly. :)

2) Speed limiter: this is usually a little electronic device fitted behind the dashboard or near the ECU.

3) Sounds like you're referring to traction control re snow etc. I don't have TC so I can't help with that. :)

Thx for the reply, ill have a look and se if i can find anything out of the ordinary, near the ecu og behind the dahboard, as u told.

Regarding the actual codes, i dont have them, as i got a reading at a Lexusdealer, so i just saw the reading and what they told me! But i wasnt clever enough to ask for the actual code numbers. But the mechanicsguy, told me it was a speedlimit problem and a problem with the throttle potentiometer.

Code 42 is quite common. It's usually a fault with either the odometer unit having a dry solder somewhere, or with a speed converter that's been fitted at some stage. I would try removing any digital speed converter (DSC) that's been fitted, and see if you still get the errors. When you remove the DSC, clear the error codes that are stored in the ECU, so you know if it's still detecting them.

I don't know anything about code 41, but someone else on here is bound to know. I think it's cropped up before so it's worth doing a search.

My Speedo has died.. I have a Thor kph to mph converter, but I alos have the "O/D" light flash about once every 3 seconds... as if my O/D switch was off.

I gahther I may have lost the speed sensor... anyone know where it is.. been under the car for half an hor cant find it!

Its an Auomatic import. While I am there I may as well fix that damn spoeed bump smash on the lower bumper edge..

Update! I explained the problem, as stated in this forum aswell, in the danish supra club. And another nice member, helped me with the problem!

As Stevie b explained, the error 42 was caused by a de-limit box, or "greddy", found this installed under the footrest/bottomkickpanel in the passenger side. This was simply removed and the error disapered.

Regarding the error number 41, this had to do with the throttle sensor. I got hold of a new sensor, we replaced the old one with it and adjusted it, and this removed error 41.

Thx again for all the help inhere, sure glad i joined the site and became member. Just hope this little update can help someone else :0)

No problem. Thanks for posting up the solution here, there will be others who will suffer the same symptoms as you in future, I guarantee it! :)

  • 3 weeks later...
THOR have tested the converter and its fine... now going to check the Speed sensor.. Will this need dropping the transmission?

Was it tested whilst still in the car? If not, the converter might be fine, but perhaps it wasn't wired up securely or properly...?

If the DSC's been removed, do you still have the error code showing up?
