ilicos
Hi all, I recently bought a 94 N/A manual and its mods include a 5Zigen exhaust and HKS air filter. I have heard alot of good things about the exhaust but opinion is split on whether at this stage, the HKS adds any benefit. I have actually heard that it could even be detramental to the performance as the original box is good for up to 500 bhp. Could someone give their view on this. Cheers, Ilicos
AlexM
I removed my HKS and went back to the stock airbox, mainly due to many saying the HKS does very little filtering and lets most of the gunk into the engine. The car is a lot quieter now.
AdzC
There are a lot of threads on this. The majority if not all advise against any induction kits due to poor filtration and heat soak. The advice is to fit a stock airbox and use the standard paper element. Although if you really want a different element you can replace it with an aftermarket panel filter such as Blitz, HKS, K&N etc but again they are known to offer poor filtration. The recommended aftermarket panel is the TRD one. Hope that helps.
ilicos
Thanks Guys. Both these comments have really helped me make up my mind. Now I just need to source an original box.

AdzC
As Matt said contact Jezz or start a thread in the wanted section for a second hand one. Or you could contact Steve Manley (based at Toyota in Oxford), Nic (off here) or even Paul Whiffin (Whifbitz) to source a new one.
Dann
I have a arc induction kit on my n/a it comes with its own box and does a very good job at filtering. My induction pipe is clean when I remove it. The only thing with the arc is that you hear the engine sucking like its got heavy breathing. But I like that sound anyway. fruity_south
lol, i was in the same situation, well kinda, i didnt have a hks system to start with i had a standard box, first thought about going hks then read alot of bad reviews, then looked at the arc one, looks amazing i think, but its damn expensive in my opinion, when i phoned up paul at wifbits (cant remember if thats spelt right) i said what the situation was. he was great, he could of sold me 3 or 4 really expensive ones, including the arc but instead he sold me one of the cheapest and was what they recomened and i quote, "probably one of the best induction kits for the supra) am well pleased with it and the fact that it was cheaper then the others. Supra-Brett
An aftermarket kit vented into the wing should be better than std ? All the big power supes seem to have airfilter pipeing into the front wing to get colder air and reduce heat soak. Whay not on an N/A ? An N/A doesn't need it, if you shielded it properly with better-than-stock ventilation it might make a tiny little difference - is it really worth it?
