Digsy
As someone who's always "Done it himself", I'm rather annoyed by this. Anyone else think it's going to be a major p*ss off?

Digsy
Well I just learned that they have changed all the wiring colours as of 01/01/05, so it will be fairly obvious if you purchased any wire to do mods after the legislation was brought in. I happen to have a big reel of 2.5mm^2 stuff in the garage, but I'm all out of 1.5mm^2. I would imagine that checking the electrics (at least in the kitchen and bathroom) will become part of a general survey?
cashpoint
Bolloxs to that. Ok who voted for a nanny state that won't let you do anything ? Wiring in my new power shower

V
I would imagine that checking the electrics (at least in the kitchen and bathroom) will become part of a general survey? Are they allowed to dismantle/undo items in a survey??

No it won't The new legislation came in as you say, 01/01/05 but the new colour wire has been around for at least six months prior to that and my mate said it's been available for longer. So, like my kitchen I've just done, you did this work last August after the cable was available but before the new regs. Paul
Paul
Are they allowed to dismantle/undo items in a survey?? Eventually they will include an electrical certificate as part of a home buyers/sellers (?) pack. You get your own survey done on your house and get the electrics checked and certified and any faults are repaired at your cost to conform to current regs. We've just had a consumer unit changed and the test carried out and it passed with flying colours (took 3 to 4 hours!). I've done loads of electrical work in the house myself so it's comforting knowing it's up to scratch and it's a good thing if it highlights bodges and forces people to get them corrected. Paul Yeah but the problem is that I need to buy some more cable for the work that was done last August, but I don't believe the shops are allowed to stock the old colours anymore? Terminator
I have been doing my own alterations and installation up to the consumer unit for years, cant see I'll be stopping now. As above I just had a new consumer unit fitted and all my alterations were fine. I have reels of the old stuff ready for a few big projects along with boxes of sockets etc. There are not enough sparks to do electrical installation work let alone come and check I have wired my new shower switch properly. It is officially a load of bollox. This will be all down to a few total retards completely fucking up and wiring the mains to their heating system pipes or something equally stupid and burning their house down and killing them selves. Doing us all a big favour and removing a flaw in the gene pool. I think we should ban knives and forks those things are lethal. I think it will not be long before mechanical modifying of cars will get hit by major check and regs. It just depends on how many crash investigations find causes attributed to modding. As for arse wiping don’t tell me you still do you own

Get the new cable, blue. brown, green/yellow if it's all you can get hold of as it proves nothing as it was available at least six mths prior to the new regulations coming in therefore if it's fitted it ain't evidence that the work was done after Jan '05.
