little num
as above, my cars started to smoke on vacuum, if im using say 2nd or 3rd to slow me down when i come to a stand still it puffs alot of blue smoke out, but only off throttle when im booting hell out of it there is no smoke at all, i have checked all my boost pipes and there is a very small amount of oil residue. My bro thinks parking the car so its facing down might cause it to be seeping somewhere it should'nt, my original thought was the EGR system there is a pipe that was off when i had the car so i replaced it and it seems to have started since then. It does'nt smoke on start up as my other thoughts was valve stem seals, but this smoke problem does'nt happen all the time. Any idea's or help would be great. Ian C
I'd say that your valve stem seals have gotten to the point where they leak under the high vacuum suction caused by overrun, but not the medium vacuum caused by idling. -Ian
bigbloodyturbo
Agree with above, valve stem seals, try and get some oil treatment that swells the seals, that stuff really worked well for me in my last car which was a prelude vti. IT only has to be in the car a while, then you can do an oil change to get rid of it incase your worried about its effect on your oil. bigbloodyturbo
whats that oil stuff called cant remember as i used it a year or two ago but i'll be in my local motor factors tomorrow morning and i'll ask for you. I seem to remember the guy saying that it was mainly for the trade and you might not see it in many places like halfrauds or the like. Are you kidding, surely it would be better to just change the valve stem seals.
Pete
Are you kidding, surely it would be better to just change the valve stem seals. It's akin to using radweld to clog up a leaky rad.....and your water ways.

Chewie
Never heard of this but do not use this stuff as it won't be just these seals that will be swelling and more importantly going soft.
bigbloodyturbo
Are you kidding, surely it would be better to just change the valve stem seals. it would be obviously be better than an oil treatment but i've used the stuff before and its always worked, haven't had a problem in the past and therefore have no problem recommending it. Maybe the guy cant afford to instantly go and pay someone to do his valve stem seals.
