Fuel and Temp Gauges

Recommended Posts

I recently changed my dial faces after converting the speedo and delimiting.

I put all the needles back on and eventually got them all functioning correctly. However, after a week or so neither the fuel or temp gauges seem to be working.

The fuel gauge now sits at half way permanently although the light still comes on when low.

and

The temp gauge also sits at halfway regardless on the temperature and does not drop when the car is turned off.

Has anybody had any experience of this and advice as to how to resolve it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

It happened with my fuel gauge, I cannot say exactly what the problem was.

Have you tried putting the needles on when they aren't at the max or min position, ie when the car is warmed up and the fuel level is somewhere in between max and min.

I actually removed the fuel pump hanger and float so I could simulate different fuel levels by moving the float.

Make sure that the needle shaft is free to rotate and not rubbing on the dial faces, in the end I removed the original dial face and just fitted my el glo dial face on by itself instead of fitting it over the top of the original.

easiest way, fill the tank up to the brim, and put the needle on at full, eng temp, by the time you get back from the petrol station, the engine will be hot, so put the needle on half way ;)

And as merckx says make sure the needles move, and are not stuck on the dial faces!

Thanks for the replies regarding this.

I did what has been suggested when I originally did the dials but as I say they both seem to be stuck in the middle now. I will have to take the dash off again and investigate. Hopefully it will be a simple resolution.
