Muffleman
Hi all, I'm formatting and reinstalling 98se onto a friends laptop for him. Thing is, it doesn't have a NIC card so I can't hook it up to the net thru' my router and run all the updates over ADSL. I know you can get a big update file that includes everything for XP / W2K etc called Autopatcher, but is there anything similar for 98 ? If so, I could download this, burn it to a disc and then update this laptop. Cheers Matt
SupraTT2004
From what I know. I dont think there is a Service Pack or any large file with loads of updates on for windows 98, especially if you are using 98 SE already. You can do it a silly way and just download all the updates seperately and then burn them to CD. Not much help really but an idea.
stevie_b
I agree. I doubt Microsoft are supporting Win98SE any more (possibly apart from majorly-critical updates), so the update stream will probably stay fairly static. I would just burn them onto CD and run them from there. Here's a list if you haven't got one already: http://scottserver.net/basically/win98seupdates.html BTW, where in W Sussex are you? Anywhere near Horsham? I swing by there sometimes.
geoffvalenti
USB to ethernet converter, then hook it up to the router and download the updates. PCMCIA network card? All relatively cheap these days and guaranteed to save you a lot of grief
Muffleman
Cheers all, managed to find an 'unofficial service pack' which includes the critical stuff, and I'm now downloading media player, directx etc seperately. Windows 98 ? Pff, who uses that nowadays BTW, where in W Sussex are you? Anywhere near Horsham? I swing by there sometimes. Hi Steve, close to Horsham ? Live there mate You local ? Or just travel through ? Matt
