It's interesting how few complaints there were initially and how many there were later, as soon as it became more common knowledge. People do love a good bandwagon. Interesting also that the BBC aired the pre-record and then later disown the content!

I see both sides of the argument. What was done wasn't right (but worse things happen all the time). The personal apologies from Brand/Ross and a BBC review of procedures to air a pre-record are probably what's needed. Of course a slap on the wrists of the presenters who perhaps got a little carried away (don't think there was malice there).

Storm in a teacup though, could all be handled fairly sensibly and rationally.

ive just listened to it all and found it hiilarious!

its a shame people are missing a sense of humour. i think this whole episode has turned into the shilpa vs jade situation. people are complaining because others are and its in the media, quick lets all jump on the band wagon!!!.

Our taste must be different then :) (Not going to start a flame war here, leave that to the press)

I like both Brand and Ross (though Ross does annoy me from time to time) but if they weren't famous there would be a police investigation Im sure and if the perpertraitors (sp?) were found they would be prosocuted and therefore the same must apply here.

And Im sure Brand has hit that if he has ever met her. I would, if she let me:D

The blame lies with the producer of the show IMO, as those 2 twerps do tend to blabber a load of crap in the belief its 'humour'!

:Pling:

How can it be the producers' fault? Was it the producers that left the obscene messages then? The messages would have been left whether the show was broadcast or not - I think that in itself is quite literally criminal, and should be treated as such. The fact that both "presenters" are complete wastes of space is irrelevant in this case.

I think the reason why there are more complaints now than at the time is because those who would listen to their sh*%e by choice obviously find some entertainment in it. Those of us who are appalled by their so called "humour" have only been exposed to it through the news, and some have obviously felt the need to make their feelings known through complaining.

Criminal proceedings please. :mods:

Whether or not it was broadcast it's still appalling behaviour, but the producer is responsible because it was pre-recorded, and it was the producer's decision to broadcast it.

Thats very true. But its the two of them who would be prosocuted by the police if it comes to it as they left the messages. Ive not heard it myself and doubt Id find it offensive, I probibly have a little chuckle too:) But at the end of the day im pretty sure is a criminal offense so end of really.

its not OUR license money they are being payed with. its the bbc's money.we pay the fees to the bbc it is then up to them how they spend it.

By dint of the fact that we have to pay the license means that the BBC have a responsibility, as Britains public service broadcaster, to broadcast material that is in the public interest. IMO, this mess shows that they're spending my license fee irresponsibly. And judging by the amount of complaints once this became public knowledge there's at least 18,000 other people who feel the same!

As tasteless as it seems to be, I find it astonishing it was then broadcast. Who edited the programme, who then OK'd it to be broadcast? This was not a live situation.

Hence the investigation. I fully expect that the producer concerned or whoever gave this skit the go-ahead will get the boot.

For anyone who hasn't heard the messages, it's nowhere near as bad as the press are making out. So Mr Sachs has found out his granddaughter, member of 'satanic sluts', isn't a virgin and someone said the f-word once on his answerphone. I'm not sure that exactly warrants a criminal investigation. Wow, 0.03% of the population have complained about it (guaranteed 95% haven't even heard it). Total non-story.

There are worse things said about people all the time on TV, direct insults on programmes like HIGNFY, Buzzcocks and 8 out of 10 cats. Just because this was said on an answerphone, and subsequently broadcast (upsetting 2 listeners), rather than in front of millions on TV, I don't see what's so different?

BTW Andrew Sachs had totally shirked his commitment to appear on Brand's show, with no explanation and wasn't answering any of his phones, hence how this started in the first place. It wasn't like they picked him at random.

Our views, the publicity round this sad affair and the complaints of those jumping on the band waggon, are irrelevant. The real issue is the complaint made by a 78 year old man, who may or may not have received some unpleasant calls, from two BBC employees. The case against The two employees will be based upon the fact that entire content of these calls were broadcast on national radio. The issue should now rest with the police.

If this had happened to my grand father, I know how I would feel. I wish Mr Sachs every success in any action he takes against the perpetrators.
