ivan
My car failed MoT on emissions yesterday so I had them replace the 1st cat, after which it sailed through. However, when they gave me back the decat pipe they also gave me back an exhaust support bracket which they said they couldn't fit now the cat was back on. I've checked on the EPC and it's definitely a standard bracket (sort of a slightly twisted open L shape with holes at the ends and one in the middle). It looks like it ought to give support at the cat. Should I be concerned that this is no longer fitted? Does it matter? It's the one at the top of this pic. merckx
It should still fit on if you have the first catalyst or decat pipe fitted, the location of the two flanges between the first and second sections of the cats/decats should be the same. I can only think that the bracket might be fouling slightly. The design of the bracket that you mention was revised by Toyota to make it stronger and for that reason it looks as if it is necessary if you have both cats fitted as they're obviously heavier than decat pipes. ivan
Thanks Merckx. I've not paid the guy yet so I'll see what he says. He did mention that the shape of the cat fouled, but it was a bit of a rush job last night...
ivan
Job done. When we looked at it, it wasn't obvious, but the bracket fitted behind the heat shield.
