Animal Posted October 27, 2008 Share Posted October 27, 2008 I've got some 5.1 speakers on my pc, but I can't get any sound out of the rears. I do have a 5.1 sound card, all the cables are in the right jacks and when I do a speaker test in the control panel, it will play a sound through all the speakers, but when I play any audio or video I get nothing. Any ideas? Music players have their own internal settings to play music. It is sometimes required to mess with them in a bid to get 5.1 effect. What player you are using? There is an option somewhere for virtual surround sound - its a known problem when playing MP3s, not known it be an issue with movies though. Animal Posted October 27, 2008 Author Share Posted October 27, 2008 Yeah, separate controls for each speaker/channel. All volume controls are unmuted and set to max. I am using the SoundMAX control panel to test the speakers. It sends a burst of noise to each speaker in turn and they all respond clearly. Konrad Posted October 27, 2008 Share Posted October 27, 2008 If SoundMax test is confirmed and working properly, I would say, that there is something messing in Windows drivers itself. Maybe try changing sound driver (default device) in Sound and Audio Devices? Do you have any choice at all? Update DirectX to get some DirectSound files updated? Check balance between Front and Rear speakers too (trivial but worth a shot).
