5.1 pc speaker problem

Recommended Posts

I've got some 5.1 speakers on my pc, but I can't get any sound out of the rears. I do have a 5.1 sound card, all the cables are in the right jacks and when I do a speaker test in the control panel, it will play a sound through all the speakers, but when I play any audio or video I get nothing. Any ideas?

Music players have their own internal settings to play music. It is sometimes required to mess with them in a bid to get 5.1 effect. What player you are using?

Windows XP:

Start ---> Control Panel ---> Sound and Audio Devices ---> Speaker settings (Advanced) - change speakers setup to 5.1 :)

If you have Vista, unfortunatelly I have no experience with this system at all.

Done that. I've also got SoundMAX controls that have had a good dose of playing with.

If SoundMax test is confirmed and working properly, I would say, that there is something messing in Windows drivers itself. Maybe try changing sound driver (default device) in Sound and Audio Devices? Do you have any choice at all? Update DirectX to get some DirectSound files updated? Check balance between Front and Rear speakers too (trivial but worth a shot). Common sense is saying rear speakers should work fine :/
