Far Cry 2

It's one of those games where a sporadic crash is a welcome opportunity from on high to drag yourself away from it and, oh I don't know, eat or use the bathroom or something trivial like that.

It's gonna last for ages this game, and there are a lot of different ways to do pretty much every quest, yeeehar

Absolutely, there's so much life in the game and interesting quests to keep the game going on and on without getting bored. I've had a couple of crashes so far, one needed a power off - not so different to Oblivion in then!

It's another one of the immersive games that can get you hooked, unlike frycry 2 this one is going to be great VFM.

BTW, I tried Eve but couldn't get into it at all :( X3:TC on the other hand...

Damn, I really should be getting out and about on weekends instead of playing computer games!

My character is a Bloke called Max, and after finding that wearing glasses gave one extra damage resistance point, he looks like a cross between me, Gary Sinise, and Gordon Freeman. What a pedigree :)

Melee stuff is different to Oblivion, there are none of the special moves and lunges or a stamina bar affecting things, it's basically "click = lump them one". But before you turn your nose up, realise two things. One, you never could work out how much effect all those fancy moves had in Oblivion anyway, and two, the VATS system is feckin' ace with Melee stuff :D

I have a sledgehammer now and when you queue up attacks in VATS and trigger them, you get a 3rd person cinematic view in slowmo (that can be a bit pants if there is scenery around you - I watched a door up close once while the fight played out  ). As it plays out, your character does different moves depending on what he's attacking so it looks ace. Clocking those bastardly hard Radscorpions with a sledgehammer is brill as your character really puts the effort into an overhead swing, and the crunching noise sounds spot on for hitting a chitinous shell, there is a spray of grot out of the blighter, and you can lean on the 'run away' button ready for when it finishes :)

Dammit I'm on nightshift and I want to play it more :D Just found a .44mag revolver with a scope on it which is like one of my fave guns ever :) Shame I only have 7 bullets :(

edit - feckinell, smiley overload.

I'm loving this game.

How good is releasing four rounds of minigun action into a super mutants head at point blank range? I'm enjoying this a bit too much.

It's probably the most violent game I've ever played. How did this escape the treatment Manhunt 2 got? Some of this is just plain wrong.

I've just read that, in Fallout 3, you can use the targeting system to blow up grenades that are being carried. One shot, one kill! How cool is that?

Also, I read that you can drop a grenade into peoples pockets when pickpocketing them!

spend much time on ign.com then Martin ?

One thing can how is the H2H combat worked out? Playing through Fallout Tactics and my dude is a melee weapon expert nothing like shoving a ripper in someones eye or a cattle prod in their groin!

I always thought Tactics was a little disappointing... didn't have the 'vastness' of Fallout 1 and 2... in Tactics you always end up coming accross the same people that you are fighting missions against... I'm playing it at the moment and prefer the Pancor Jackhammer myself... that and the 'bloody mess' trait!

How is the game play on Fallout 3? I find 1st person shoot em ups give me motion sickness... Is fallout like that?

This has turned into the Fallout 3 thread :D

It's still amazing... I'm playing it as a good person, and I can't wait to go back over it as a bad one!?

I think I've killed as much stuff in Washington as my experience points will allow me too... there are two nasty mutants in one of the subway stations I can't seem to get past. Even if I peg it past them theres a bunch of Raiders waiting for me in the next tunnel.

I still can't get over how good the graphics are. Some of the set pieces are breathtaking. Gear of War 2 will have to be pretty good to beat this.

OK, so I'm RPG converted now :)

I did almost put a bullet in that birds head after she wouldn't let me join her gang when I'd got to the Radio Station.

That said, I wasn't much help on the way. I spend most of my time staying out of the way and searching mutants for 'ant meat' and the like to try and stay alive.

She didn't get the best impression of me.

I did do quite a good job of taking out that huge mutant thing with the car door on his arm though.... we actually turned him into a pile of ash :)
