Well now the ECU will store a code until it's reset, what it won't be able to do is give you a time or date. So the first thing to do is reset the ECU to clear all the fault codes and see if it still acts up. If it does, recheck the codes and the ones now present are the ones currently relevant. It's possible one or all of the stored codes go back years.

 

Edit - gosh I was just about to add that advice to my original faq entry when I found I had already said it right at the bottom :)
