Clicking, cracking noise behind dash.

Ok, after my engine change the Supra started to make a cracking/clicking noise from behind the dash (you could also feel it inside), it then went away so I ignored it, but now a week later it's doing it again, not all of the time, mainly when the car is stationary, but that could be because I can only hear/feel it when i'm stationary. When it did it again last night I opened the bonnet and........nothing, there is no noise from the bonnet area.

Any ideas?

Cheers

Marc

Where behind the dash, drivers side? passenger?

If there is a few air bubbles in the coolant you can sometimes get a clicking type noise behind the upper glove box as they go through the matrix.

Sounds like the centre (behind the clock) could be passenger side, but definetly not drivers side.

Do you know how to bleed the system?

Theres not much behind the clock except for an air duct. If it was lower down in the centre it could be a relay in the heater ecu or electric aerial.

The coolant is pretty much self bleeding, as long as the rad cap is in good condition. Make sure the overflow bottle is full, drive car until properly hot (20 mins or so) with the heater turned on to full, then cool down until cold and check the level in the coolant bottle and top up if required.

Cheers, the aerial is plugged in but not working, so could be that I'll have a look tonight. I'll try the bleed method aswell, when you say overflow bottle is that the radiator expansion bottle?

Thanks

Yes, overflow/expansion bottle.

The aerial controller is mounted behind and just above the radio at the back of the dash. Pull the fuse for the radio and see if it still clicks.

Edit: obviously check for gerbils first though, common fault apparently
