JamesF
Does anyone who works in the North West (Lancashire type area) work for anywhere where theres a job going? Really struggling to find work at the moment. Ive got a Degree and B2B sales experience, but at the moment Id sweep up for minimum wage. I know a million people will say "try Tesco" and I will but Im just seeing if anyone needs someone to cover leave as an office junior or even in a warehouse etc. Ive worked in an engineering plant, a warehouse, several shops etc throughout Uni. Anyone know of anything?

JamesF
Good luck though mate! Sounds good if they're doing security checks - must be keen. I'm yet to hear back about a territory representative position for a well known soft drink corporation but theres a bloody assessment day. One of those days full of those stupid tasks with people assessing your every move to see what kind of person you are. Then those psychometric tests, then other ways of embarrassing yourself, then an interview. If I had a pound coin for every one of those Id been to I'd have, well... £1. But thats beside the point

But thats beside the point Wow, I hope you get the job you want... Oh, sorry I was actually offered the Job 4 WEEKS ago and security checks usually take 2 - maximum... I had a call last week telling me that all the references had come back ok... So, I was expecting a call this week asking me to come down and sign the contract. So I phone up earlier this week and now they tell me that they are waiting on one reference even though they said it had all been cleared... So I tell this woman my situation via email and she says that she understands my situation but can't do anything until the referenceS - (key word there) come back ok...hmm... Well, how long is that going to bloody be?? I can't afford more time off of work... Me thinks that I may have to look elsewhere...

SteveR
I was offered a job at MoD Boscombe Down in Wiltshire 3 weeks ago but I still havn't started due to security checks! If you don't currently have SC clearance, you can expect to wait at least 2 months for it to come through, more typically 4 months. Depending on the nature of your work, I would have a word with personnel and ask if you can be brought in under "Basic Check" and work alongside cleared staff, or work with only unclassified resources, until your clearance comes through. MOD & MOD-related organisations lose out on a fair few people who apply for jobs, go through interviews and careful selection to ultimately be offered & accept a position but then later turn it down as they get bored waiting for clearance to come through so they can be given a start date. Ask nicely, explain the situation, and they might be able to chase it. If it's references they are genuinely waiting for, contact the people you named and ask them to hurry it up. stevie_b
If you were me, would you hang in there or start looking for another Job?? I'd do both. You could see if there's any casual work around to fill in the gap until your SC comes through. Or, you could have a look for something elsemore permanent. Don't walk away from the MoD job until/unless you've got something else firm on the table. Personally, I'd look for temporary work whilst chasing up the SC. As someone else said, ask the SC people if you can chase your referees

As someone else said, ask the SC people if you can chase your referees Thanks for the advice guys, I used to work at A.W.E and I had DV clearance with Principle so the MoD tell me that my SC can be transfered from A.W.E to MoD Boscombe Down... I had a word with the Security people today, and apparently, it is just one reference that they are waiting on... The annoying thing is, they tell me that it is all completed, then they tell me it's one reference and now it referenceS...

SupraAyf
I know... If you were me, would you hang in there or start looking for another Job?? Just wait out mucker. The Defence Vetting Agency are the guys that conduct your vetting and I know they are quite busy at the moment. I assume you sent them both your personal and work references? If this is the case then drop your referees an e-mail to ask them if they have returned the necesary paperwork etc. If you were awarded DV more than 5-years ago then it will have expired and you can't simply move to SC category which has a 10-year shelf life. If you are currently DV cleared then the MOD may be reducing your DV clearance (if still in date) to SC. If this is the case then they will conduct a 'Change of Circumstance Report'. I'm sure it will be issued soon if you have not done anything wrong since the award of your last vetting status (i.e. criminal, personal or financial issues). EDIT: Also, if you are a young guy (circa 18-23) then DV needs to be monitored and such vetting status may only last for 1 or 2 years from the date of issue.
