RobUK Posted October 22, 2008 Share Posted October 22, 2008 Hi Guys, Can anyone point me in the right direction? I have recently purchased a new stereo..... hurrrrayyy So I carefully took apart the dash board to attempt to fit the stereo myself..... i quickly realised that I needed to get a "Professional" to fit this as the speaker wires were not using the ISO convertor.... but had been chopped and crimped.... so I put the new stereo "in" but unconnected...... put the dash back together only to have no Speedo :-S I have since visited a Car Audio guy who has soted out the stereo by wiring the speakers back into an ISO convertor... so the stereo is now working AOK.... but sadly the Speedo isn't.... I have had a look at a couple of the posts about but to be honest not sure if they help or not The situation currently is that the Speedo doesn't work.... the odometer shows a value but doesn't increase..... The Speedo/Odometer convertor is made by Thor and says "S1" or "51" as a model number.... I am willing to go and see someone.... and also take my car somewhere to get sorted.... just thought I would see what you "Experts" think..... JustGav Posted October 22, 2008 Share Posted October 22, 2008 (edited) sounds like somthing to do with the vehicle speed sensor , have you had the car converted from kph to mph ? i had the same same problem and it just needed the conversion box replaced I have yet to see a supra with an actual fault on the speed sensor. More than likely it will be either the power wire to the convertor, or the initial signal wire has been trapped while changing the radio. Thanks Rob No, the speed signal is a pulse driven system and not a voltage based. ie the faster you go, the faster the pulses and not higher the voltage. Thanks Rob Yeah, I've just got in from work, so if you give me few minutes, I'll post up the wiring diagram links. However if you look around there are a few guides on how to fit the various units. georigg Posted October 23, 2008 Share Posted October 23, 2008 Rob, Go back to basics; you took the dash off to installa new radio, so presumably you pulled out the old radio and the frame to which the radio is installed also has a couple of amplifiers attched to it, but the Thor speed converter does not attach to any of those cables. Yopu will also have removed the top plastic(above the clock assemply) which holds indicator lights right and left and also has the odometer on the left hand side. The thor cabling will attach to that, probably behind the plug assembly position when the top plastic trim is fitted. Did you pull this trim assambly too far out when removing the trim? Most likley you have pulled a cable away from a splice as the signal for the dpeedo also goes to the Odo. Possible also your "electrician" has pulled something in that area. Look for a loose cable in the area of the Odometer position, in the space behind where the Odo fits when that trim is in its normal position. Have a look at the PDF sheet attached which may help.
