JamesF
Alright Planning on getting something like a roller skate for weekend fun. Been looking at a few options but keep finding faults. Id like something with a lot of power/ good power-weight ratio, as Im coming from 200+bhp cars and my dads coming from bikes. Been considering 205 GTIs/309gtis but to be fair I dont think it would be thrilling enough. Then again I prefer the looks of the 106gti. Im not overly keen on the caterham style kitcars either. Considered an Escort RS Turbo but kinda put off the cheaper models. Renault 5 GT Turbo's arent too cheap. S13 200sx are getting a bit too abused now and I dont really want a car Id need to bodykit up for it to look good. Ideally it'd be a Mk2 or MK1 escort but I dont have the cash. Something for a couple of grand. Im thinking of a Mk1 Golf on carbs... (Always always wanted one) I know someone with one and he prefers it to his Tommi Makkinen Evo. Any suggestions? tooquicktostop
I would avoid the R5 GT Turbo, they are fun but get through head gaskets and turbos

JamesF
http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/221846.htm Ace! Bargain basement. I prefer the R32 shape though. Definitely one to consider though. My Dad's keen on the Pumas, but Im not! James
michael
My Dad's keen on the Pumas, but Im not! I wasn't convinced until I drove one, worth consideration if you are just after smiles and relatively cheap motoring.

Scott
I've got a 106 GTi going back up for sale soon if your interested. Had a few tweeks done for performance but nothing silly.
michael
Ive heard good things about the 1.7 engine. And I loved my mk6 escort (first car) It's a cracker, it really is - people will scoff and write the car off without ever having been in one but get behind the wheel and have a drive, make your own mind up. They have their common issues but there are lots of good ones around with all this kind of thing sorted, having said all this mine goes for it's MOT tomorrow so I might change my opinion of them after that. j_jza80
You should be able to get a Starlet GT turbo for that money, cracking little car with great potential. Quite easy on the tax and insurance too.
