supraspeed
Ok, ive been interested in the celica GT4 for a long time but always gone for something else more flashy. now ive just looked on evo website and they claim it does 0-60 in 5.2 secs. i was under the impression it was more like the late 6's. can anyone shed any light on this and if so how they drive compared to the supe and how easy they are to tune? past experiences etc? only cos i might have to sell my supe and this seems like a sensible balance to look into. jamesmark
I too have been considering this car. Tdr's brother has had one so he might be able to shed some pointers on them when he is on.
Gruggs
My mate has one. It just has an AVCR boost controller on with a decatted exhaust. It lacks the top end poke but between 40 and 90 is where it does its damage. Good handling too, I cant keep up with my mate if we hit some seriously twisty roads when he's at full attack angle. Very nice cars though.
chris2o2
3sgte and 4wd is a good combo The interior is a bit poo i thought though . http://www.celica-club.co.uk for all the info you'll need
Bazzagt4
Having been the chairman of the owners club for the last 3yrs I would offer you some good advice........If you go for the latest model ST205 (Quad headlamp) then the 0-60 time is bang on. They are very easy to tune to 320bhp and will handle like its on rails on the 'B' road blasts, the transmission is pretty bomb proof unless you are mad for drag racing. Things to look out for are Suspension problems (front knocking) £1,000 fix and clutch £500-£800 fix. Being a toyota they are very well built and very reliable but like most things the more you tune the less reliable they become. Brakes are awesome as they are the same units we have on the UK/facelift supras. HTH

A number of garages wouldnt even quote for the job, its that bad. I roped a mechanic friend of mine into doing my mates....he'd done a few years back and afterwards came to me and said that he now remembered why he hadnt done any in years. :d G
supraspeed
cheers folks for the info. really tempted to get one...but that means selling the supe, even though i can't really afford to keep it on the road.... some major decision making in the near future me thinks.... When I was looking last month there did not seem to be any consistency with prices and I was basically looking for stock ones.
tDR
Brakes are awesome as they are the same units we have on the UK/facelift supras. Not quite but close, and they do give the ST205 awesome stopping power as standard. The ST205 is the one to go for - as jamesmark has said I have good experience with them driving, racing and working on them with my brother (booST205 Junkie on GT4OC, just sold his) and my dad (still has one) including a full engine rebuild with forged internals, TD06 20G turbo kit etc. The clutch change isn't so bad - you just have to accept it's an engine out job (with gearbox and transfer attached) and focus on whipping it out as quickly as possible rather than fannying about looking for ways to do it in situ (as we did the first time). We got the engine out, clutch changed and engine back in down to half a day on the last one we did to my dad's. Prices to get the expensive items done vary wildly - some specialists will do the clutch change for £300 labour (Mr. Clutch I think it was). The figure of 8's and lower arms (both suspension related) are the ST205's achilles heal but again shop around for the parts and you can do it for around £600 and tbh I'm sure the original items from your car can be rebushed rather than replacing them. Once done they dont need doing for another 70,000 miles or so - not too bad in the grand scheme of things. To drive I love them, very capable cars and my 4WD turbo nutter choice over most of the scoobies and evos about. Very reliable cars - great handling so brilliant B road blasters and on the drag strip they can do high 12's with BPU mods. Brilliant to launch, my bro's was a case of grab 4k RPM or so then sidestep the clutch and get ready to grab 2nd gear! Worthy of note they are the only 4WD rally car I know of that can take such abuse for over 100 drag runs on the standard clutch at BPU level of mods and more importantly the same gearbox and driveline components took such drag abuse for the excessive number of hard runs my bro did with it even when it was around 450bhp. Scoobies etc. seem to need a new gearbox every 5 full bore drag launches!!! Cheers, Brian.

Conrad
I sold my Supra back in Feb and bought a black ST205. I've owned them before and as already said any clunks/bangs from the front = fig 8 and lower arms. Clunks from the back are the diff mount. Mine sadly has clunks from the front and back, the 'play' on one of the front wheels is very bad., So much so that I haven't driven the car for 3 months, the fig 8 is sitting in my garage though waiting to be fitted when I eventually wake-up on a Sunday without a hangover. Thankfully the garage I bought the car from changed the clutch before they sold it me so that's all good. I couldn't tell you how much they're fetching at the moment and what's a fair price to pay. I paid a ridculous £2400 for mine as it was a little tatty in places and the garage was desperate for space at their unit. I haggled them into the ground... IIRC they were fetching circa £3k+ at the time for standard. Mine was standard with 75k on the clock...
Aero-M
my mate is selling his now, the clutch has also been replaced. oiriginal ad below. current mileage is around 85k and he's looking for £4500. http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=149307
edge
I now have one of these things. Off the line they are very quick indeed. But as soon as you hit 3rd gear you will`miss the torque of the supra. And as mentioned before the suspension is very expensive. Had mine about a month and spent £800 on suspension parts trying to find a knocking noise. i find the interior fine and not too different from the supra. The insurance is the same as my bpu supe due the amount of mods - standalone ecu, fmic etc. Great fun to drive and its not a scooby
