supraman382
Just seeing if you think its the alternator thats packed up before i spend on buying one! ... Had a slight squeal at around 900rpm, below on warm idle it is fine and accelerating its fine too. This was happening since a week or so after the MOT. Checked all belts etc and they seemed fine, not a bad sound so did not chase any further as I only do 100 miles a month if im lucky.... ...Driving to the gym one nite it was struggling a little on full boost and it didnt feel quite the same, as though the throttle body pipework had popped off and the boost guage had stopped working. Pulled over and pipework was all fine including the boost guage piping (think the guage has just given up coincidently)... ...After the gym driving back it still felt a little sluggish and on a the by-pass i put my foot down to get a hopeful response, turbo's wound up but as it hit 4000rpm the ignition lights came on and the turbo timer countdown.. I was going to pull over but was close to home and didnt want to stop and get stuck where I was so made it back, as I stopped to reverse in the engine struggled and died, no power to start again we wheeled it into the space... ...with no ignition it appeared to be the battery was flat so hooked it up to my other car and let the battery build up, ignition was on but it really didnt want to start, letting it charge a little more we noticed smoke from the Alternator bushes so disconnected it... ...Deciding to take the battery inside to charge i noted a few spots of liquid on top i assumed it was water from the bonnet but as i carried it more came out of the cell..squeezing the sides was a big mistake as it shot battery acid a couple of feet onto my friends trousers... ...The battery was new for MOT a few months earlier so I took it back and exchanged it. New new battery now in there was some more smoke from the bushes, disconnecting it again and waiting for the smoke to dissapear I tried again and no smoke..the car started fine but was struggling a little round 550 rpm but yet again the ignition lights were all still on and with some revving it stalled a couple of times (car had been sat for a couple of weeks since it last started) Starting it later that day it started fine and warmed up to tick over at 700-750 rpm and revving it seemed fine but the ignition lights still on... ...and that brings me up to today, just wondering if it sounds like a failing Alternator or something else?? Sorry for the very long story but I see a lot of people on here as Doctors of the Supra and wanted to give them a full story for diagnosis!!
