If anyone does buy one from Comet make sure you pay the £20 for the recovery cds. They told me that it would just recover the PC to a usable condition if something bad happened but that it wouldn't reinstall Vista if I put a new drive in.

I beg to differ. ;)

Or save yourself £20 and just ask you for a copy :innocent:

Cheers buddy, yeah i like that one!

Going for 450 now, might be worth the upgrade Doug. I know u said you don't need the GFX card but since its within budget it might be better to get all u can in case things change.

All good advise, dam near anything new on the market around the 300 quid mark will do you for internet and general use, don't worry too much about the memory it is dirt cheap at ebuyer or crucial just now. If you want to play the latest games then look out for the dedicated ATI or Nvidia cards, so it kinda just boils down to the look and feel you want.

I have found that Laptops are generally no good for high end game play (which most new games require), even the Supposed "Gaming Laptops" are not really that good (compared to a PC half the price) unless you are spending near £800 - £1200+ on a laptop, i would not get one for "gaming use".

Not saying that a laptop costing £600 won’t run new games, for this sort of money you should be able to get dedicated graphics with a descent processor etc, but don’t expect Xbox / PS3 quality smoothed graphics, in most cases you may need to run near half the resolution and switch off other effects as dynamic lighting, filtering etc for it to run properly.

Oh i would suggest getting a cooling stand for it (like a Belkin one about £12) if you are to play games, as laptops get very hot.

Well, it arrived today and i'm very impressed so far. Much quicker than my Advent 3119 home PC but then it bloody well should be!

Seems to work well with the online game I play as well, although I may take up Richards' suggestion of a cooling stand as it does run hot when playing.

Had a go with my Dad's over the past few days (sorting it out with a fresh install etc).

Very very impressed. He ended up going for the one without the dedicated graphics but its definitely more than he requires!

I went with Vista X64 for his as it came with the 32 bit version. Might be worth a go if your interested :D
