benkei Posted October 19, 2008 Share Posted October 19, 2008 I'm selling an item on Ebay, and it's close to finishing. I've set a reserve on it which hasn't been met yet. I got a question off one of the bidders asking how much I'm selling the item for (i.e: what's my reserve). There are 2 other bidders on the item, but I'm not sure if the reserve will be met unless they get really competative soon! Now should I tell them, or ignore them? I'm thinking, if I tell them, then they may not want to bid anymore if they don't want to pay that much, and if I don't tell them, then they'll keep pushing the bids up. Don't see why I should tell people what it's set at though. This idea how Ebay is SUPPOSED to work is that you see an item you want, bid the most you're willing to pay, then come back when it's ending to see if you've won. Everyone seems to vulture around and make last second bids to try and win items. I hate when people do that!! I could have started the bidding at the reserve, but I think it would put people off bidding, everyone is there wanting a bargain and high starting bids discourage people, where as if you see something cheap, you're happier to bid on it, then get caught in a bidding war to win it after you've set your heart on it! lol. Just tell them the reserve. Unless you have some "it's not fair play" thing about it, in which case don't. If you tell them the reserve and it's more than they want to spend they won't bid - right? I already put it up for sale on here and got no interest, so I stuck it on Ebay to see if I could sell it there. The minimum price that I saw it advertised elsewhere was £140. I got it for 99 pence, no other bidders. Delivery was only £7.99 which was very reasonable considering it's weight.
