Noisy Clutch

Hey guys

Sat in traffic last night and my clutch started to make a clattering noise as if the 2 plates were slightly rubbing. However as soon as I put the clutch in the noise went away. Car still pulls hard and can handle hard gear changes.

Am I right in thinking it could be the release bearing?

If it's noisy when you're pressing the clutch pedal then it's probably the release bearing. If it's noisy when you're not pressing anything, in neutral, it might be coming from the gearbox (ie: input shaft bearing).

ahh well its noise when in neutral but the noise then goes when I press the clutch pedal

With mine it was noisy in neutral and when i pressed the clutch pedal. When in gear and driving the noise disappears so its possible that it might not be the release bearing in your case.

Just took her out of the garage, it seems to get much louder and more "clunky" when the clutch pedal is just off the floor.
