Dash Rendar
Howdy all My air conditioning has never worked since I bought the car. I'm thinking about taking it to someone to get it checked out. However, I've heard that using the air con can seriously affect fuel economy. My fuel economy is bad enough and I can live without the air con if I really have to. So, what do you think? If it only reduces economy by a small fraction, I'll probably get it checked out.
Soonto_HAS_soop
Get the aircon fixed, u don't need to use it all the time. And if u don't use it, it can knacker the motor.
toyotasuprauk
Definitely get it looked at it probably only needs a regas. The fuel economy is only reduced very marginally and if your in a traffic jam whilst its 32c in a couple of months you'll be glad you did
terribleturner
What happens Dash when you turn it on?? It's worth getting it done. I havn't actually had my car for a whole summer yet, but i can imagine being stuck in the sweltering heat without it in the sup is gonna be nasty. JohnK
this will give you some idea about the aircon / mpg issue
Dash Rendar
Thanks for the link. Wow, how did he get such great mileage??? I'm lucky to get 20mpg and I don't boot it very often?!? Well, I've sorted the aircon. In the end, all it needed was regassing. So here's to a comfortable summer!
toyotasuprauk
Those are good MPG's in that link for a TT! My NA returns just over 30mpg on a long motorway journey but it soon reduces around town. Glad you got the air con sorted its so nice to have in the summer.
Terminator
Glad you got it fixed. Having been stuck in a jam in 90 degree heat in MKIV with duff air con, I can asure you all that heat soon gets into the car, not a very pleasant experience. Keep an eye on it as letting the gas drop low can cause problems. The genral consensus is, you should run air con for at least 15 minutes a week; all year round. I have been doing this for nearly five years with my TT and every time my mate comes to check my gas we can't squeeze a drop in.
