merckx
I've just had my renewal through from Elephant - £920 , hasn't come down much from last year. So I thought I would try and get a few quotes on the net, but I couldn't find any that were even close. Some companies were quoting over £2000! I decided to give Admiral a go, very easy website and if you have a modded car like most of us do you can even do that aswell. Very happy when I was quoted £770! Sometimes my twin brother likes to have a drive of the car, so I put him on as a named driver (it doesn't even ask how many years no claims he has). I was very surprised to get a quote which is £72 cheaper. So now I'm only paying £698, which is £222 cheaper than Elephant. :rich: Funny thing is, Elephant is part of Admiral! Jake
I decided to give Admiral a go, very easy website Huh? Is that http://www.admiral.com ? It says this on their website: If you are insuring an imported car that was originally manufactured for outside the EEC, e.g. an Asian or American import, we are unable to offer you an online quote. Please call us on 0800 052 6116 Mon - Fri: 8am - 10pm; Sat: 9am - 5pm; Sun: 10am - 4pm. We may be able to offer you a quote over the telephone. merckx
when choosing the car, they gave all the options available including imports and I made sure I selected the correct one. I did it all online just like on Elephant which is part of Admiral! No worries here!

So what web site was that on? The one I mentioned above says they don't do imports.
merckx
So what web site was that on? The one I mentioned above says they don't do imports. To be honest I didn't see the bit you've highlighted, but you can select the imported car as an option. I'll contact them tomorrow to check on this. Jake
Best to check mate, you don't want to find out at claim time that they "Don't do imports"
Homer
Be careful with Elephant. They will only insure 6 modifications to your car as that’s all their database will allow. Also as dump valves are not listed in their mod options list they will not insure any car with one on. Check your policy very carefully, I found to my cost that they had omitted the BOV from the list of mods. This was despite me mentioning it very clearly during two telephone conversations to them (Once the person even supposed asked his manager to confirm it was okay). When my insurance came for renewal in December I noticed the mods list had lots missing so called them to confirm. I was then told 'Sorry, but we don’t insure cars with dump valves so you policy is invalid’. They did agree that my policy was valid until midnight that night, but unfortunately I had an accident that same evening! I figured it wasn’t even worth trying to pursue a claim for it! On the plus side I'm now insured for much less with A-plan.

afennell
In my experience elephant will only replace damaged bumpers with originals. As i found out after some body driving into the back of me at a set of red lights. Had to go through his insurance repairer for a new trial bumper.
