Paul372
i drive the supe down to bognor at the weekend and all was fine down there and back, but tonight when i took the supe out i get a loud clunk sound from the box or diff when the car is changing up gear and it jerks the whole car really bad and its happening all the time constantly. its an auto tt, do you think the box has had its day or the diff or would low level of fluid do this
Paul372
should i try and change the fluids first to see if it will make a diffrence
Homer
should i try and change the fluids first to see if it will make a diffrence With the auto's a fluid change is always the first option if there are no obvious mechanical faults on the drivetrain. Guest pitstopralph
Sounds like a look at the prop might be in order, if the uj's have had it the clonk and vibration will be as you describe it.
Paul372
what could be wrong with the prop, what have i got to look out for when checking it cheers
Guest pitstopralph
Have a look at the uj's at the front and middle, [look for any rust dust, this is normally a clue that the rollers have broken up] grab the prop either side and twist them agaist each other. Have a look at the centre bearing and hanger, have a real good look at the rear rubber, it should be solid with no splits. I reckon the way you describe the vibration if it's in the prop it will be fairly obvious.
Paul372
ok thanks mate can you repair parts of the prop
Paul372
right its defo not prop or diff because when the supe is stationary parked on the drive with your foot on the brake and then you change gear from park down through R and D it knocks really loud without the car moving so its got to be box, tc or gear box mounts what do you think
Chris Wilson
The only thing you are stopping moving is the wheel hub. Something amiss propshaft, diff or rear drive shaft or hub spline wise would still knock.
Paul372
ok so it could still be anything i will have to try and find someone to have a look at it for me
