DaveK
I have an amp, and although the sound goes through it I'm still connecting direct to the TV HDMI for the sources. However - this is only because some Pioneers allow you to have ISF calibration carried out, and this is done per source - hence I needed a different input for each. Results in a quite lovely picture! Originally, I did simply route all my HDMI sources through the amp.

Jake
Grrrr. Now that the HDMI issue is sorted I've decided to go for the 50" TH50PZ81B Shopped around and the cheapest price is £1300.09 from Dixons - problem is I really don't want to buy from Dixons due to their very poor customer service. EmpireDirect have it advertised for £1369.99 with 5 year guarantee. I managed to agreed a price match against Dixons and was placing the order, just double checking the details with guy (model number-check, delivery date, 5 year guarantee) "No sir, you don't get the 5 year guarantee if we're price matching"
Angarak
Grrrr. "No sir, you don't get the 5 year guarantee if we're price matching" I thought the 5yr guarantee was from Panasonic, not the company you buy it from - so I dont see how 'price matching' should affect the guarantee

michael
Do you have a Costco near you Jake? I don't know what specific models they have in at the moment but they had an assortment of Panasonic plasma sets in last time I went - usually fairly competitive on price and they give a 5 year warranty on all TVs. osso
I really cant see the point of freesat built in.. stupid idea.. i bet you cant record something and watch another channel. you might as well get a seperate freesat box which has dvr capabilities if one exists? Mike M
Yeh i agree i think i am out of date with my Info,my experience with Plasma is from like 3 years back now, cheers for the info fellas . Yeah things have changed alot, I bought my 42" tosh plasma in 2002 and it still gives a great picture and has had some serious use although the laddering gives its low resolution away now. At the time though Sony, LG and Samsung plasmas were awful and LCD's were even worse. Top of the league were Panasonics / Fujitsu and toshiba which used the panasonic (Matsushita) screens. ( I'm not swearing BTW stupid filter) LCD's still get screen burn, our work HP lcd monitors seem pretty bad. Sky news is also bad for burning plasmas. Cheers:) Mike
Jake
Phew. All sorted and ordered now. In the end I went for the non-Freesat 50" TH50PZ80B and a separate Sky HD box. I got the TV from Empire Direct for £1098.99 with a 5 year guarantee and the Sky HD for £49 + £30 installation with half price (£5) HD channels for 6 months. Pretty good deal on both items, I thought.

List price on the website is just shy of 1200.

Jake
How did u get it for that price? List price on the website is just shy of 1200.I had negotiated a free delivery for it on Sunday (£1098.99 + free delivery) but I wasn't sure if anyone would be home on Weds. When I called back to order it today the £1098.99 price had been corrected to £1199.99 + 20 delivery. Luckily I had taken the name and extension number of the guy I spoke to on Sunday and he agreed to let me have it for yesterday's price but plus the 20 delivery charge. Jake
Sounds like a good deal, Ibrar, but do you really want the Freeview though? When I was looking at them I decided the PZ80 was better value and that I probably wouldn't use/watch the channels that are on FreeSat anyway. If the TH46PZ80 or PZ85 was available on a similar offer (but even cheaper of course) it might be worth considering.
Ibrar Jabbar
I will check them out tommorow, thanks for the tips.
Jake
By the way, you won't be disappointed. I'm thrilled with my TH50PZ80. It's one of the few things I've ever bought and still been really impressed with weeks later.
Scott
Yeah thats a very important thing to consider. Also with freesat you require a satellite dish, if you don't already have one its a bit of a pain.
Carl
They are great tv's. I have the Freesat 46" version and its great in every aspect. Even comes with a duster to wipe that piano black surround with-lol. Carl
