David Reid
Is it a twin plate as they sometimes rattle and chatter at idle when not loaded?
Nic
OEM or aftermarket flywheel? Aftermarket flywheels generally rattle at idle, it's normal, raising the idle speed slightly should get rid of most of the noise. The standard OEM flywheel is dual mass which dampens the noise from the gearbox (the rattle you can hear), an OEM flywheel should not rattle at idle. Nic
hi nic i got all parts from toyota all stock ... It'll be single plate clutch then if stock, did you fit a new release bearing?
j1mb0b1
i did not fit it my self i payed someone but if the Clutch release bearing came with the kit he would have fitted it
Nic
i did not fit it my self i payed someone but if the Clutch release bearing came with the kit he would have fitted it The OEM clutch is not sold as a kit, the parts are bought individually. I would check with the garage to see if a new release bearing was fitted. Something is definitely not right, the stock clutch shouldn't rattle. Nic
i will check if one was fitted, if a new one has been fitted. is it faulty should i contact toyota ? More likely to be error in fitting the clutch if a new one was fitted.

j1mb0b1
toyota have agreed to replace my Clutch release bearing for new but i am worried that it may not be the part at fault but maybe a error in fitting as nic says, but the person i have had do the work on the car is very good done work on all my cars at a high level of quality but he has never worked on supras before, Is the clutch and Clutch release bearing a complex job to carry out and could he have done something wrong. i have asked him they question and says he has fitted the parts correctly. does any one have any serjestions? thanks J
j1mb0b1
just one other thing as well if any one knows, whats the runin mileage for a clutch and Clutch release bearing because iam thinking i did not run it in correctly i drove the steady for around 100 miles then decided to take it to drag strip after that this is when i got the problems with Clutch release bearing am i at fault maybe ? just fishing around for ideas to why this has happed.. j
edge
Its not a complicated job to change the clutch just a bit of a pita the 1st time. They will be using ramps so even easier. I would keep quiet and get them to change it and just act supprised if he spots any signs of abuse. I would have thought it would of been upto the job unless your flywheel is knackered. Also find out if they changed the spigot bearing. Its only about £5 so get one fitted if they didnt change that either.
Chris Wilson
The drag strip.....? I think you know why it's making funny noises, now don't you? The stock clutch and many aftermarket ones are NOT designed to be used on a drag strip. If they are at all competent they'll KNOW it's been abused

j1mb0b1
hiya guys just an update on car the noise i have been getting turns out not to be the Clutch release bearing, but the bush's on the gear linkage have worn and its droped and been catching on the gear box causing the rattling sound, least its not as bad as clutch release bearing
