adnanshah247
when im driving slow like pulling off in first gear or while im in 2nd i can hear a knocking sound from the back left wheel. when im slowing down the knocking starts but as soon as i touch the brake pedal its gone or when i get to speeds over 40mph! recently had the suspension changed and put new pads on the back but knocking is still there. getting so fed up with it now dont know what to do! somebody told me to check the rear cv joints, do you think it could be that? as far as i knew and experienced, cv joints make a knocking noise on turning wheels and obviously the back wheels dont turn............ really confused. i have driven the car with half the handbrake up to see if it was that but still i can hear and feel the knocking. pretty sure its not the brakes. all help would be very appreciated!!! thanks in advance. Lbm
Is it your exhaust swinging about like an untamed beast? Mine does this as you describe at slow speeds. (Trial Rear fitted)
adnanshah247
ow damn you know you might be right because the panzi at the tyre place put the jack on the wrong place denting the exhausts pipe work, might have moved the exhaust? adnanshah247
yeah thanks bud, the tyre guy couldnt get the jack under because my cars really low and he wheeled the jack anywhere underneath and began lifting it only to realise the entire weight of the car was on the exhaust denting it in! dumb a$$

Hey- I'm just the guy who knows about possible exhaust related knocking noises coming from the rear left of people's supes. What I would say (and have actually done myself) is simply buy OEM brake discs from Mr T. Steve Manley is your man. There's something unattractive about certain Ebay "Brake Disc" ads that say to me: Noooooooooo!!! Naturally if you're after a big brake set up, perhaps not OEM, but I believe the stock discs offer good value and more importantly- they work

bigbloodyturbo
I have the same issue as this, I get a vibration at speed sometimes but not always and when I lift of the accelerator I get this speed related knocking untill I touch the brakes, then the noise starts to go away. Has anyone got any ideas?

bigbloodyturbo
Check your pad rattle pins... Would they cause symptoms similar to an unbalanced wheel as when it happened today I was having a play with a vx220 and I had to lift off and go home as the vibrating coming from the car was very bad. Then when I coasted, the loud knocking started up.

I've had something similar where the wheel was balanced, but rim was twisted slightly....

I've had something similar where the wheel was balanced, but rim was twisted slightly.... That is a possibility as about a 6 weeks ago I first noticed the 'unbalanced' feel when I drove through some unprepared road during some roadworks. Can I test for a buckled whell the same way I'd test for runout by using a dialgauge on the wheel with the car jacked up?
bigbloodyturbo
I checked the brake rattle pins and they are there. I jacked the car up to look for anything obvious but couldn't see anything. I drove the car down the road and it now only makes this knocking when you lift your foot of the accelerator and allow it to coast. When coming to a complete stop it knocks relative to a walking pace speed. Could this be anything to do with universal joints or drive shafts? It feels like it. bignum
Wheel bearing?
bigbloodyturbo
Wheel bearing? I don't think its a wheel bearing as anytime I've had one in the past its been like a loud rumbling and its there all the time, especially when cornering. This is an actual knock knock knock constantly (frequency is relative to speed) as I coast, when I get on the accelerator again the noise goes away. There is also an imbalance somewhere as once I get up past the speed limit the car feels like it has an unbalanced wheel. I think I have come to the conclusion that it may be the centre bearing between the front and rear sections of the prop. Some input from anyone who has had this part fail before would be handy as I'm going on a whym and a prayer at the moment:)
GreaseMonkey
My Mates UK Supra tt had a similar issue from the front brakes which turned out to be a siezed/sticking caliper piston. He noticed the outer Brake Pad was very slightly loose when compared with the other Brake pads on the car and that one of the outer pair of pistons wasnt moving outward as should when the brake was applied. He got a caliper seal overhaul kit for his Uk Calipers which sorted the problem.

The caliper was all manky and seized causing the pad/caliper to make a knock at low speeds. Took them out and stripped them down and its all better
