flukey-lukey
Take a look at the video and give me your opinion on what the really annoying 'whine' noise is. I think its related to one of the pullys because as the revs go up so does the volume of the noise. I sprayed a bit of WD-40 on the aux belt tensioner pully because I thought it was the bearing inside there. It didn't work and now its become very annoying. Almost as annoying as my whining girlfriend

Are you sure its the PAS pump? have you checked to fluid leve? may have just dropped, or some air has got in the system. first step is just to bleed the PAS system, and go from there. Pretty sure, because i had to change the pump on mine after a major pump failure, put a 2nd hand one on, didnt bleed it properly and sounded exactly the same as that. think its about £130 ish for a 2nd hand one

I usually check all fluid levels every other week (apart from oil and coolant which are checked before every start up) and haven't noticed it dropping. The fluid was changed last year by myself and haven't had a problem up until now.
flukey-lukey
Ok so I've bled the system and checked that the level is correct, but I still have the noise I need to be certain its the PAS pump before changing it, but theres nowhere round here that I would trust looking at the car Is there anything else it could possibly be before I decide to buy a new pump? heckler
how did you bleed the system? took me 3-4 attempts with mine
flukey-lukey
I took the top off the PAS resovoir, locked it to the left....waited a couple of seconds, locked it to the right...waited a couple of seconds and then repeated a few times. Didn't see any air bubbles coming from the res. Is that the correct way to do it? I'm sure I read on here thats how to do it ?
heckler
ahh.. Jack up car (engine off) lock to lock 3 times put car on ground (start engine) lock to lock 3 times you may have to do this 2-3 times. What you are looking for is any signs of bubbles or frothing in of the fluid. Also keep an eye of the level
flukey-lukey
ahhh, that helps Thanks I'll have to try that after work tomorrow and report back!
tooquicktostop
I had the same issues and after going through the heckler procedure all was fine with no issues since
flukey-lukey
Ok so I went through Hecklers procedure for bleeding the system 3 times and the noise is still there I then took the aux belt off to see if there was any play in any of the pullys. There wasn't. I then span each pully one by one to listen for grinding noises (to indicate failed bearings) and the only one that made a noise was the tensioner pully. So, at this moment in time I'm thinking its the aux belt tensioner that has had its day
