edd_t
Was watching some Jack Osbourne show last night and he was at Nurburgring. They were driving around in little Suzuki Swifts with this website plasterd all over them! http://www.rent4ring.de (there is an english version) Seems like a good idea to me. I've been wanting to do the ring for years, but as I'm not rich enough to just shrug my shoulders when i plant my own car into a wall and shell out for a new one like its pocket money, I'm serioursly thinking of doing this next year. Maybe I will hint to the GF that it would be a perfect birthday present Any one else heard / used them or similar companies?
AJI
Bare in mind that there are usually hefty deposits for rent-race-cars and if you did prang it then although you won't have to pay the cost of replacing the car itself you will still be liable for the crash barrier repair, track closure time, marshal time, and other cars damaged if the police get involved. (Plus loss of deposit). And there is still the fuel to pay for. So it still works out nearly as expensive and risky as if you brought your own car. (assuming your own car is not worth too much that is) One of the best options is to buy yourself an old 2nd hand motor with a modest amount of performance.... such like an old BMW. But something that is not going to fall apart at the first sign of a corner. Then do the very basic simple mods... such like better brake pads and tyres and maybe higher working temperature braking fluid and also strip out the useless weight. If you are thinking of doing this with a few mates then split the costs. You may actually find that all this works out much cheaper than renting a race car and the risk of losing the deposit if you crash.
sparkystav
When i went with the Lexus Owners earlier in the year a lad hired out a Beemer from there. There not too bad to rent for the day and well maintained cars. But the excess is something like 5000euros that you have to pay. Though the ring costs (barriers, marshalls, etc are covered in the insurance) Stav
AJI
5000euros ! strewth. That works out to be around £4100. You would have to do a serious amount of big time crashing to rack up that cost in barrier repair and marshal time. Average cost of 'getting it wrong' on the NRing is around £800-£2500 Totaly depends on the need for length of barrier repair and the charge for them to close the track. It is well worth looking at all the small print to wiegh up the advantages/disadvatages of it all. I just realized that my posts here about the NRing might scare you off going. It is not meant to by the way. The above is all about if you get it wrong big time. If you are fully aware of your surroundings and are driving within your limits then 99% of the time you are just as safe on there are you would be on a normal road.
